DID I GO TOO FAR?Urgent Question about my head.

I'm doing a gasket match/mild port I know I don't want to mess up flow. My question is can I do anything down in front of the valve guides but, before the valve seats basically top of the bowl area? I know touching the valve seats is a big no no but while I was porting I worked my way down a little low and need to smooth it out. I have a pic for the front view and will get some specific pics down low on here by tommorow, as I also knicked a guide and need to know if it's safe to run or if I should start checked machine shops. Any experience would be great as I'm damn nervous around that region and would really like to know specifically what is safe. I've searched every word combo I could think of to try and find it with no luck so here I am. Hope to hear something soon as I'm on a very important time limit. Thanks all, Jake

I did the best I could to get good pictures but I couldn't get a Great shot(sorry guys). The orange illustrates the area I need to smooth out inside the valve area, The red dot is the center of the guide. The red circle is where I got into the guide with my burr, it is very slightly dented there but not anything of great noticble difference I can't feel it with my finger but, it is visable. My question is under normal driving conditions would it be ok or will it cause a hot spot or the guide to crack? I could REALLY REALLY use some advice, anyone?

I'm finishing up the exhaust side now, minus the bowls and such and will be moving on to the intake. I won't be nearly as aggressive on that side, as I know it's much more delicate unless someone reliable assures me it's ok. Please I really need some good info.

Don't worry, putting a nick on a valve guide won't kill the head, as long as valve stem isn't nicked.

I can't tell from those pics if you went to far, but be carefull on those dividers, as there are coolant passages going through them, and if you port too far, you will open one up into your exhaust runner.

Thanks for the help, do you know how much it usually cost to get valve guides pressed in? I was working last night and knicked one on the front lip pretty sure it's gonna have to be replaced want to make sure I don't get screwed. Teach me not to port when I'm tired and angry, not a good combo. Thanks, for the advice though.

If you nicked that guide away from valve stem, then you won't need another one.
Otherwise, costs for stuff like that vary greatly from shop to shop. Arounf here, we pay $80 to have new guides pressed in (inluding guides and valve seating). We do our own assembly/disassembly though.
