how far is too far??

so i busted the front balance shaft belt and it some how made the crank jump 4-6 teeth or about 20 maaaybe 30 degrees (the timing mark is at 2-2:30 and the crank is at 12:30). starts (hard) and runs but wont rev over 3500rpm, the valves are alittle louder than usual but no clanging or banging noises and the compression is good. i know this is a interference engine so do you guys know if this thing is toast? thanks

Chances are the engine isnt toast but you probably got some headwork ahead of yourself.. i would first put it back into proper time and start it and see if it runs normal. if it makes one wierd noise shut that bi*** off and start to rip the head off. your pistons can take a couple valve contacts but not many.

so i should retime it with only the rear balance shaft hooked up and see if it runs right? as is, ive driven it halfway across town and back to get it looked at because it still drove

You really shouldn't of driven it like that, If I were you I would retime the engine and see how it runs, then do a compression and leak down test.
