Cutting bumper

depending on what front mount depends on how much. But you do need to cut the crash beam. The black plastic part and someitmes you do need to trim the bumper cover to fit the fmic

Most FMIC's require you to cut into or completely remove the actual bumper/crash beam (the black beam bolted to the chassis). The "bumper" most people refer to is the bumper cover which sometimes requires some trimming for most FMIC's to fit behind it.

Some examples of FMIC installs:

Thanks for the responses. If I did crash into something without the beam, would it cause a significant amount more damage than if I had it on? I know my intercooler would be totaled and wouldn't do much for protection but would the front of the chassis provide any protection? And by protection I mean protecting my turbo and motor.

Without the crash beam, a significant front end collision would pretty well decimate the entire car from the firewall forward.

Take beam off and hack out center section to for FMIC. Keep the beam ends and the bumper shocks installed to aid front on impact and to help mount your bumper cover to.

I just took my crash beam out. Anything over 5mph and its useless. You get hit in the front, your FMIC is the first to take the blow anyways. Cutting the bumper cover is cake.

The front crash beam is fiberglass, not even metal. If you ever found yourself head on with another car at 45mph+, I doubt the bumper would make much difference.

Metal in my 1G. Actually PITA to cut.

No matter, designed to crumple so leaving the ends and shocks will help anything but center punch. Speed doesn't kill, stopping abruptly does.
