:dsm: Hello to all tuners,
im in the process of doing some upgrades to my eclipse and im trying to make the engine compartment look a lil more "clean" so i mounted the battary in the trunk still not good enuff so i tryied to take out the cruis control unit and and ran into problems do i have to replace the throttel cable for a non cruise control one

^^^ Buying a non-cruise cable is really the best way to go -
It will free up alot of space and make the engine bay a ton cleaner.

I'm looking into this too, and I know for a fact I've seen them quite a bit cheaper than $60. Maybe not brand new, but still, I was only going to spend about $40 tops on this.
I could of sworn I saw it on-line for $45 brand new at one of our vendor's sites.

I am in the process of pulling the motor on my 2g awd and the curise control box, wires seem to be in the way. I want o keep it, but how do I remove this? I don't want to ruin it to where I can't get it back in.

I was doing some searching and i only found problems with the cable and which one to use and such...but im still curious as to what the advantages are of removing the cruise control. Do people do this just to free up room and get rid of things or does it actually have a perfomance purpose?

I went for the cleaner look and removed the cruise and the AC but it still bites me in the ass when I'm taking a 4 hour trip in hot weather. I certainly makes things look a lot better. If they made a manual rack for the 2G I'd pull the power steering too.

Yep I removed mine to clean up the bay. My buddy is removing his in his GVR4 so he can move his battery to that location and make a better intake for it. Right now the battery is right where you want to put a high flow intake

Well thanks, i hope this can help all the other newbs around here. I was thinking it might make a faster throttle response or something...looks like i can do without this...i like my cc

It definatly looks cleaner, and I bet if your really hard core about taking off every little ounce of weight as possible it might be another reason, not that it would be enough to hardly be measureable but who knows im sure to some it is worth it.

I thought switching to a non cruise cable gave better throttle response and a tighter cable, can anyone confirm if this is true of false ?

I think that you guys missing on a major reason why people are doing this: there is a cheap, non-cruise cable available! If we didn't have this easy option, you would see much fewer cruise cable removals :)

Plus, there is always: "monkey see monkey do" mentality ;)

i like the new feel in the pedal, lot easier to push it, its kind of hard to describe but with the cruise cable the pedal feels spongy compared to the non cruise cable IMO

same here.

and on a 1g getting rid of it makes it a lot easier to work in the back of the engine bay, starter, knock sensor etc. not sure where its even mounted in a 2g since mine had it out already.

its mostly just one more thing to clean up and declutter the engine bay though

If any of this is actually true (and not a placebo effect), then something was wrong with your original throttle/cruise cable.

A well functioning cruise control cable will not feel any different from a non-cruise control cable.
