im starting this forum like a poll. i want to know (and sure others too) how many of you tuners have actually gotten crank walk on there 2g and wanna hear all the people that havent. please just leave a reply if u have gotten it or not. thanx-greatly appreciated

just wanna see how common everyone makes it seem

But if a motor gets crankwalk what kind of parts are killed in the process

It is usually found when it is too late, at which point you are looking for a new crank, block, and bearings. If you find it when it is just barely out of spec, (no major symptoms) a new set of bearings could fix the problem.

We need to do a poll of all members to see how many of them have actually had the crank walk. I'm sure it would end up being like 1/50 engines that experience the problem.

I know it seems like the people that hav had crankwalk are more likley to chime in on forums like this then people like me who havent and dont know anyone who has.Instead we just look around threads all paranoid trying to find out when were gunna get it.

Well do you recomend an oil pressure gauge .. And what is your oil psi suppose to be at betweet ?-?. cause the logger will tell me, but idk whats considered low?

Crankwalk will effect any engine. The thrust bearing is usually where it starts (though there are other theories). Just putting new bearings every 60k would probably solve it. There are 10x's as many DSM's that see 150k on stock bottom ends. If you are woried about oil pressure, normal oil pressure is above 7 psi, sometimes lower. DSM's are famous for having low idle pressure. 11psi is considered MAX. oil pressure while driving will variate depending on engine. *(balance shafts removed, tighter bearings, oil squirters bocked)*

The 2g 7 bolt gets a bad rap from it's tendancy to just die from "crankwalk" (thrust bearing wear) because it's crank sensor is right off the end of the crank nose (1G's all have it built into the CAS on the end of the intake cam). The crank sensor can get whacked by the trigger plate if the thrust bearing wear becomes excessive; the actuation of the clutch shoves the crank towards the driver's side of the car and the movement breaks the sensor. No crank signal & the car dies. Replace the thrust bearing & the sensor & the car will once again run as long as no other damage was caused.

On an off thread topic, has anyone had problems with crankwalk on a rebuild 7bolt with new bearings?

yea, my friend had a problem with crankwalk on a fresh new built 7 bolt, thats only ### the dumb machinest didn't put the thrust bearing in.

That is unfortunanet for your buddie. Don't listen to the ones that state DSM's are un-reliable. Most have bought a car that was neglected of maintenance for its entire life, and continue to neglect it and only seek its sweet turbo. A well maintained DSM would last a lifetime and then some. Stick to its maintenance and keep it repaired. When you loose hope on your DSM, it will loose hope in you. They are very good cars, just high maintenance. They are like really hot women. I have seen many 200K+ 1g's. 1.8, 2.0 n/a's, 2.0 turbos.

My car hasn't walked yet with the new block, but the previous owner had it happen to him... I pray daily.

car number 1 - 1995 Spyder GST - 125,000 miles - no CW

Car number 2 - 1997 Spyder GST - 130,000 miles - no CW

Both were bought used
