Hey guys i just bought a 97 gst spyder, completely stock aside from exhaust and a boost controller. I know this has probably beeen asked already but i cant get a decent idea.. If i go wot it has a stutter more like a hesitation while building boost but if i ease into it slowly boost builds nicely and i fly ha i also noticed while idling it vibrates and its quite annoying. could this be my crank sensor? im checking plugs, wires, and boost leaks tomorrow but i heard crank sensor would cause the weird vibes at idle any help is much appreciated! sorry for the long post btw

Check the obvious as stated above and post back. If the Crank Sensor was bad I think you wouldn't be able to get on it at all, might not start up to be honest. Also, gap your plugs to .028" and make sure you are using proper plugs like BPR7ES or BPR6ES's.

Gap your plugs like stated before and check all your vac lines. My car acted the same way when I got it turns out that the vacuum lines were done the wrong way. I also had a crack in the line that didnt really leak until I started to build pressure causing the stutter when building boost. I also would recommend putting a wideband on so you know your afr's.

It is not for sure a crank sensor, with the WOT loosing power it could be as simple as not having a full tank of gas and slooshing happening in your tank. The weak idle could be a boost leak. I'm guessing you have a stock BOV, is it recirculated to the intake snorggle? If it is not and its atmospheric then at stop lights, idles, after a revv your car should and will bog down. Definitely check gap in said post before

well i checked plugs they were almost new ngk BPR6ES's gap was .28, i ran a compression test all cylinders are 140 to 150, wires are new no cracks, no boost leaks either :/ i did find a vac line plugged up im goin to chase it in a min but i noticed it looks like im missing a nipple on my intake, its just right of the nipple thats for the bov? and they sealed it up.. i think the plugged line is on the evap purge solenoid not sure tho the line running from the p on the throttle body goes to this as well? i pulled 3 codes also 1.fuel trim malfunction (bank 1) 2.map/baro circuit malfunction 3. clsd loop fuel ctrl insufficient coolant temp any ideas? stock bov reccirculated also..

Route all vacuum hoses back to factory spec, theres a label under the hood that shows where they go. If the car has a boost controller make sure you have a aftermarket boost guage.

anyone have a diagram? my hood has been replaced sadly half of me just wants to take the dam boost controller off i have a boost gauge im installing tomorrow along with mech oil gauge and air fuel ratio i heard a bad thermostat or a coolant temp sensor could cause big problems? i know with gm's they will shift horrible and miss and run like complete poo but idk... my goal for this car is to just get it running awesome and drive it haha mods would get me alot of tickets

thank ya much, ill try to reroute everything tomorrow while im doing the timing belt, heres another question though.. do i have to take the oil pan off to change balance shaft belt?

well i started routing lines and figured out my egr has been removed haha just haave a block off plate now what?

Make sure you do your maintenance also if it hasnt been done. Fuel filter, air filter, etc. Be sure to also change your timing belt, balance belt, tensioner, and pulleys. If you dont, youll end up spending WAYY more down the line fixing the bent valves. The fuel filter could be old and clogged, that would cause the symptoms you have.

Well I deleted emissions. It runs better but still has slight hesitation. It runs great when it's colder outside. I just did timing belt and balance shaft also. I'll do fuel filter tomorrow. Could a bad cat do this?

Yes a clogged cat will cause hesitation. Another way to tell is if your manifold starts glowing

I havent noticed if my manifold glows, but i do smell the cat every once in awhile... I wonder whats causing it to run in open fuel loop mode.. i have the abiltily to get a snap on scanner and see diagnostics though, does anyone know what my o2 sensor's reading is stock? and also map voltage i believe?
