questions about a 97 socketed ecu.

a buddy of mine has 2 socketed ecus one with a 97 stock eprom chip and 95 eprom chip off a gsx. he said he'ld just toss me one but i was wandering ca u put on in a 1g 90 and wut kinds of supportive mods would u need?

you will have to have it tuned for your cars specs or get dsmlink and tune it yourself. the point of eprom chip is that it gives u the ability to "tune" your car. There are companies that u can send it to and there are set ups you can buy like DSMlink ECUlink that allow you to do it yourself. Most say it's the best mod to do to ## DSM and even though I have not done it I would have to agree based on my research and other peoples testimony.

You would for starters have to at least change to wiring at the ecu connector since the pin out for a 2g and 1g are different. Here are some links to the pin outs for the different ecus:

As far as getting ecmlink for your car with this ecu in you would have to contact ecmlink to make sure the eprom chip will work correctly for a 1g in a 2g ecu

Putting a 2G ECU in a 1G would mean making some changes to the wiring harness at the ECU. The 1G harness has 3 plugs and the 2G has 4. You'd have to make a patch harness unless you weren't concerned with ever running a 1G ECU again.

My biggest thing is you said it has a stock 97 chip, which doesn't exist. With the conversions I thought it was basically a ecmlink ecu only from then on, but I could be wrong about that.

You can use a converted '97 with a stock EPROM chip.

That is a converted ecu. That would be like calling a 1g non eprom ecu an eprom ecu from the factory.

Ok that makes since. I would assume that might be tricky to find without getting the 95 ecu , but the again I guess you could just burn a custom chip to stock levels and use that.

An off the wall question does anyone know if you would have to change the firing order on a EPROM conversion for a 97 (if you were to use the stock chip) like you do when you run a 95 ecu in a 97-99 or is that controlled by a different part of the ecu.

i thought there was one year they came stock with an eprom he said both ecu's were socketed and out of a 97 said he had a 95 eprom chip but didnt know if u could put them in a 1g. appreciate the links and help.
