So I've searched around and I can't find the exact answers need so I figured I'd join up. I bought my 97 GS two weeks ago for a daily and have already fixed a couple leaks, replaced the whole steering rack, done some TLC and now I'm tackling an emissions issue.
Im not exactly sure where the issue is. I know I have some bad hose they basically fell apart in my hand. One hose is missing and one wasn't hooked up. I'm going to try to explain the location of everything because I'm not sure of their names.
I ordered a new purge solenoid and a new fuel cap and I'll also be getting all new hoses.
So on my GS the canister is in the passenger side of the bumper. There's a device below the canister and I'd like to know the name of it. Then there is and other device on the side of the canister (the passenger door side) I also don't know the name of that one.
Now there are two metal lines that run along the passenger side of the motor. One turns down towards the ground and the one above is the one missing a hose so I have no idea where that line would go.
There's only one line coming off the intake manifold is that correct? It has a T in it but one end is capped.
Finally and thanks for reading all of this. There's a line coming off the throttle body, the very top side and it is capped and I have no idea why. Any help is appreciated. Pictures of your engine bay would help me a lot!

Are you talking about the vacuum lines? And sounds like your referring to the charcoal canister and its solinoids and also the egr system. Can you post some pics please? Hard to understand what your saying and talking about. Sounds like the previous owner did some emmisons delete stuff and not very well LOL.

So I've figured out a little more of the system.

Here is the T on the inlet for the Intake manifold. The end that isn't capped runs along the passenger side of the motor using metal tubing and then to a hose that is connected to what I believe is the purge control valve (see third picture)

Heres the metal tubing that runs to the bottom side of the Purge Solenoid and as you can see nothing is atached to this end. Does this end run to the capped side of the T?

And finally this is the purge control valve correct? The red arrow, the yellow arrow is pointing the bracket that normally holds the canister

Is your cruise control hooked up? According to the diagram that metal line should have a line straight to the throttle body and no t's. If you are missing the char canister there will be 2 vac lines off and 2 solinoids not being used I believe. Do you have a check engine light on?

Yeah I have CEL code P1494. Alot of my hoses were falling apart so I just decided to tear into the system today. The diagram I have in my Haynes manual shows one line from the purge control valve going to the intake manifold and another from the purge solenoid.

As far as the cruise control goes. The light in my ON/OFF switch turns on but no dash lights. The only things I've checked on that so far are the control switch and the vacuum line that runs from the module on the passenger side of the motor to the black thing (vacuum pump?) on the back of the motor.

The LDP or Leak detection pump uses vacuum from the intake and regulates the vacuum in the EVAP canister to pull fuel fumes from the gas tank and send them into the intake to be burnt. Ldp is the same as the ventilation solenoid. Sounds like you need to source a new char canister to properly hook the system back up.
