ALWAYS! definitely, you may spray the head surface itself and the gasket.

Yes use copper spray. It just helps things seal better if there are imperfections on the block or head surface.

i used copper spray with my Mitsu MLS, but only on the bottom ,since i did not have the block milled but the head was...... it sealed up just fine...ill be using it again here soon... not to jack the thread but has anyone ever had any problems re-useing a MLS gaskets? it only has about 600 miles on it

Its called copper seal or something similar depending on brand and you can get it at most auto parts stores.

You should never use it on the head gasket! The gasket is coated with teflon so that it can MOVE, coating it with adhesive is STUPID and will come back to bite you in the arse...the factory says NO coating on the head gasket.

I do NOT use copper spary on a composite gasket, it can "grit" the composite face as the head and block move dure to thermal expantion.

some have luck with it, others do not.

On a non sealant bead MLS HG I will use copper spray.

i used it when i did my mitsu mls h.g. And everything sealed up like a champ. I only resurfaced the head as well.

I have a buddy who had about 300-400 miles on his built 420a with a MLS headgasket and a stupid idler pully bolt decided to break and took out all of his intake valves. He bought all new valves i installed them. Put everything back togethor and he didnt want to buy another head gasket so i reused his old MLS headgasket and from this day car still runs great boosting great and all with over 5,000 miles on it.

I have personally seen in 2 occations where mls gaskets were reused but with very low miles. If you clean it really good and and spray sealant on it yot should be fine. BTW I used Permatex copper spray and 24psi-50trim tested good.

I am at the point of either using a new composite head gasket or a barely user Cometic MLS hg. Only ran for 3 weeks and under 100 miles the black coating is damaged in spots so I was thinking of reusing my MLS but copper coating it 1st.

Throw a new $30 Felpro composite on it and send it, no spray.

And as a follow up, DON'T use the Great Stuff unless you want to cuss for along time when you try to disassembly the part and God Forbid it is an oil pan flange.

Never re-use a headgasket unless it’s an emergency and can not be replaced . I understand it’s probably ok, but when you assemble anything the cheapest part of the job is the gasket. I understand it’s mls and might be ok but please don’t.

FelPros have a coating on them from the factory, and I believe FelPro themselves say it should be installed dry. I used a Mopar head gasket on my Neon when I built it, which calls for spray, and it hasn't leaked.
