Hey guys,

What temp do you guys do full power pulls at? 650+hp, Im thinking 180-185F, I just see these 'racing' thermostats, that are like 140deg Tstats, I think thats a bit on the cold side.

I mean.. With a proper working cooling system, you should be able to maintain thermostat temp by +/- 5-7 deg fairly well. 140 just seems cold.

Thanks.

Heres the coolant temperature ECU points of action, you'll want your coolant temps between 180* and 205* whether your at WOT or idling...

Enter ECU Learn Mode : 180*F
Coolant Fan ON : 210*F
Pull 1 degree timing : 206*F
Pull 2 degree timing : 224*F
Enter Open Loop Mode : 228*F
Default Coolant CEL : 235*F
A/C Override : 240*F

Aren't the numbers slightly lower for a 1G? I don't know the exact numbers but the one that stands out is the CEL light being somewhere around 220 for a 1g since they run a bit cooler...

140 Will just open your thermostat all the way earlier. When you have an oem 180 tstat and your only at 170, your tstat is still open. Even with a 140 Im pretty sure youll eventually see numbers up around 180. You can only stay as cool as your system allows you to.

Yes, but the system is actually quite good. With a 140, given proper ambient conditions, you could easily stay at 140. A lot of people forget the thermostat not only allows the car to warm up but also keeps the temp high enough by closing again if the cooling system is doing its job too well.

My coolant stays between 150 and 165 Under Hard driving conditions and stays the same under easy or idle conditions. I dont think it has ever even seen 185 now im only at 521 hp not 650+

I normally run the car with the fans off til it hits 200, turn on the fan and it pulls it down the 175ish then we turn the dyno fans on and it will go to about 165ish. Then we make pulls, car has aluminum rods so I like to make sure the motor has heat in it before I beat on it. Though I have seen other beat on their aluminum rod motors cold.

At the track same process but after it hot I typically shut it off finish getting the car ready then run it when I am ready its normally around 175-185.

My car refuses to run below 212. Even on the highway with a new radiator, fresh coolant and watter wetter with two fans running full blast. It will sit right at 212 all day.
