Did the venom gt start life as a exige?

A Venom GT is a Lotus Elise with a twin-turbo LS9. And an Exige is basically a hard top Elise.

In the comments it says that car was a Ginetta G50.

The passing car is indeed a Lotus Exige GT3 driven by Barton Mawer. He's chasing down Alan Simonsen in the Lambo that you see pass in the beginning of the video, for the overall race lead. Apparently Mawer is doing amazing things in that little Lotus this year, staying very competitive against much more powerful cars. FWIW, that car makes about 285 hp from a supercharged 1.8l Toyota 2ZZ-GE. Obviously it's very light. Probably in the range of 1700 pounds the way he has it set up.

Edit: BTW, this is serious competitive racing. We're not talking about a casual track day here. I believe some of the races in that series are televised (obviously in Australia).

I've nearly killed many-a-lapper in my 13 years of MX. You'll think they're going to hold their line so you try jumping past them just to have them move over at the last second in an attempt to block the guy which they're battling over 19th position.

I would have to disagree to me it would be like letting a expert marksman shoot and apple off your head. It may have been pretty risky but A. He didn't crash or cause a crash B. He clearly knows what he was doing. And when you race with different classes the slower cars are suppose to yeild. From what I could tell he was coming up pretty hot and that was the only way through. I mean it is a race and he was competing there's no way he was going to wait adding seconds on his time to slow down and wait for the other cars to get out of his way. You got to admit that takes some skill to shoot a gap at that speed! I thought I was pretty cool.

All I have to say is holy nerves of steel batman. His adrenaline had to be sky high on a move like that. Mad props to the drivers of the 2 cars he passed. That could have ended bad for all 3 parties.

Well yes kinda but the Venon GT just uses the Lotus tub and interior parts, the front and rear sub frames are completely different.

it looks crazy in the the first video because of the angle but when seen in the lotus cam the gap was more than enough to go thru..

Btw it seems like the gap was closing more n more as time passed. They seem to hesitate. Like they saw a bullet in rearview and didnt know what to do.

I dont blame them, im new to speed, and would have slamed the brakes on like the idiot i am . But thats awesome! I hope to get there one day.

wow...those racers and or cars shouldn't even be on the track at the same time IMO, but being froma racing past i know that that type of sh1t happens all the time, to me if every car/bike out there can't keep a similar pace or acceleration rate they should be divided.. i too came from MX back in the day and there's so many slow guys in front of you that do stupid, stupid stuff that most are lucky to not be taken out by them... then get into road racing and the steaks go way higher and speeds go way UP and then that was a lucky break in terms of what'can happen"
