Tomorrow I'm planning on removing and cleaning my throttle body as well as changing my spark plugs. I've checked out vfaq and everything but I just have a few questions: What should I gap my plugs to its the first time I've changed them out. I saw "0.028 to 0.031" in the maintenance schedule on this site and I'm wondering which one I should aim for. Are there any sensitive parts on the throttle body that I should watch out for when removing it? Also, what should I torque the throttle body bolts to if necessary? Last, I have new gaskets for the TB and I'm wondering what sealant I should use on them, I've been told copper spray, is that ok? If you have any other tips not referred to in one of my questions feel free to enlighten me. Thanks for your help.

The NGK BPR6ES. This is what the majority of DSM'ers who don't have too many mods or are running fairly low boost will tend to use. Also upgrade your wires to some NGK's.
Example:
Stock car, T25/14b, 12-15 psi, upgraded intake/exhaust: 6ES
16g, 20 psi, water/meth injection : 7ES-8ES
GT35R, nitrous, the works: 8ES-9ES-10ES

In the case of turbo DSM's, many people choose to gap their plugs to .028". This is what i gap my plugs to.
I've had my throttle body off and only cleaned the inside and outside. I wouldnt recommend doing this unless you know what you are doing. Mark all your vac lines so you know when you reasemble it you know where they go. Just make sure to clean the surfaces of well so the gaskets will have a good seal. I did this with a razor blade and air operated tool with abbresive pad.( Just to clean metal surfaces with old gasket material on it). You could also use a light sandpaper.

As far as the gaskets just use the new gasket WITHOUT any other sealants. Copper spray is only ment for use on exhaust and metal headgaskets. Basically anything that has HEAT.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I've had many different answers on what to use on those gaskets so thanks for clearing that up. Just so anyone else you looks at this post knows I do have a shop manual and I already have BPR6ES's and Magnecore 8.5 mm wires. Also, the gasket from the TB elbow to the TB is metal. Should I use copper spray on that?

When you clean the TB, take the sensors off. If anything gets into the FITV, it will kill it on contact - i learned that the hard way.

Are all NGK wires blue? I cant find a set of just plane old NGK wires in gray? Im willing to work with red but I thought they had some gray ones.

Unless he's going to sand blast it, the FIAV doesn't need to come off at all. Just follow the directions for a regular TB rebuild or send it out to Brian http://www.dsmtuners.com/classified...s-10/throttle-body-rebuild-salesservice-3809/

It's very simple to do, just mark a line on the spring for reassembly. The gaskets shouldn't need anything, but you can put a THIN layer of RTV sealant on both sides. Nothing to it.

If you don't plan on taking the throttle body apart, you can just take some alcohol/brake clean, paper towels, and Q-tips and clean the plate off and the bore out that way. If it's very bad, it could take a while. If you do take it apart, be sure to read over the VFAQ articles a few times on how to do it exactly and what all things you should replace.

I use copper spray on all gaskets (including the throttle body gaskets), unless they are metal.

The torque spec for the 2 nuts and 2 bolts holding it on is 16 ft.lbs.

Thanks for the info Brian, and everyone else. I am just planning on cleaning the plate and bore not rebuilding it. It shouldn't be too bad seeing that my car has 52,000 miles on it. I'm also changing out the PCV valve. Can I use a silicone line to replace the rubber line that comes off of the valve?

IMO you should replace the throttle body shaft seals if you have the TB off. Even at 52k seals and gaskets will go bad as your car is 11 years old. It's not too time consuming and you'll be sure you don't have a boost leak there then afterwards. The seals are cheap to boot. Silicone vacuum line is fine to replace the old rubber lines with.

Change the PVC valve with an OEM one otherwise pick up one of these to throw in line with it as well. I use one on my OEM PVC valve as it still leaked. Check Valves | U.S. Plastic Corp.

Ok thanks again for the info. I already picked up an OEM PCV valve and I have some silicone hoses left over from when I changed out all of my other vacuum lines, so for now thats what I'm going to use. I think I'm going to leave the TB shaft seals alone for now.

I'm having trouble unscrewing the PCV valve from the valve cover. Do you guys know what is the best tool to remove it and if there is anything I can do to loosen it up?

I dont know if anyone has run into this, but i am having trouble finding brp7es plugs on any of the auto parts websites. I havent stopped by any of the shops yet, but thats my next step. Is there another part number that they are listed under that i am missing?
