In the periphery bits there is an option to disable closed loop operation. What are the advantages/disadvantages to running open loop all the time?

In open loop mode won't the car just run to the specified fuel & timing maps all the time?

I'm using full time open loop so that I can control my AFRs while cruising/highway driving. It allows me to lean it out a bit for better mileage. Closed loop forces you down to 14.7 ish.
 
Yeah I moved to open loop because my rear O2 has malfunctioned and it makes my car run rich at idle/cruise (11.2 AFR) under closed loop.

My question was what are the pros/cons to running open loop full time?
 
You can disable the Rear O2 and still run Closed Loop, a high percentage of people turn the Rear O2 off and run Closed Loop because they have the CAT removed.

Pros of Full Time Open Loop are you have full control of AFRs at any RPM or Load range.

Cons are the CAT needs 14.7 to operate correctly. And its time consuming and more difficult setting up low Load AFRs/Fuel Map, because Injector DeadTime effects fueling at low Loads. And you aren't going to see any great increases in power by tweaking AFRs at low Loads.
 
Ever since moving to an H8 ECU I've ran with the rear O2 disabled and in closed loop due to the P0136 code, but my car would still run pretty rich. Does the front O2 still function in open loop? Perhaps my front O2 was going bad?

I run catless so the 1st con doesn't worry me.

Can you explain more on how injector deadtime interacts with fueling at low loads?
 
Deadtime is just extra injector pulsewidth added across the board, everytime the injector opens. So, I like to think of it as a percentage of the total pulsewidth, so you can see how it mainly affects the idle and light cruising AFR. At idle and light cruise your total injector pulsewidth might only be 1500-1700 uS, or 1.5-1.7ms. So, adding another 200uS of deadtime will add 12-13% more fuel at idle and light cruise in closedloop. But, at WOT, where your pulsewidths could be 20ms or more (20,000uS), another 200uS is only 1% more fuel. You should really tune the deadtime while watching the LOW LTFT on a logger. Your injector scaling and deadtime correction should be balanced so that both the LOW and MID LTFT are close to 0.

Does open loop even consider any of these inputs since it's just running what's defined on the fuel & timing maps? If not, then isn't there potential for my open loop tune to change depending on the external environment (temp, altitude, & humidity)?

Closed loop operates primary on the Front O2 Sensor and Fuel Trims, it trys to keep the AFR at 14.7, by using the Front O2 as feed back.

Open loop is effected by Compensations such as Temp and Baro. It has no feed back like Closed Loop, so the ecu doesn't know if Fuel Map AFR matches real AFR or not, you must correct that yourself by adjusting Injector Size and Latency.

The various Compensations, Temp, Baro, etc., are in place so your Open Loop AFRs/Tune don't change with weather or altitude. And they do it very well.
 
Ceddy anyway of using removed inputs (emissions or other inputs) to run things such as nitrous or methanol.

I have my Cyclone Intake Manifold activated by RPM on the Fuel Pressure Solenoid.

But there isn't a easy way to have a generic output activated by various options in EcuFlash, so its kind of a one off custom thing.


I have also added a switch to one of the unused inputs for someone, to turn launch control on and off, but that was a custom thing also.
 
Ok, I found a couple things in the ROM that are throwing me off a bit.

1. High/Low Octane Ignition Map Big are all jumbled. The X and Y values and table values are off. The Big Fuel maps are the same way.

2. High Octane Ignition map 1 shows load in g/rev, but that is the only one. Every other map shows load in the regular % numbers.

3. The ISC Table shows "xxx" for every value in the X and Y axis.

I can live without using the Big Maps, but I didn't see an option under "Ceddy Mods" to disable the big map lookup.

2. Switch the axis to Load in the table editor, like the other Ignition maps.

3. ISC doesn't have axis like the Evos. Its actually one long single column table, but won't fit on screen like that, so I gave it multiple columns and squished it.

Sounds good on the ISC, I'll just ignore it then. The only reason I mentioned it at all is because at some point I did something goofy in my Evo ECU tune and my car cold idles at 2300 RPM until it starts to warm up a bit. I was copying over values from the stock DSM ecu to the Evo ecu to correct it. Didn't end up working, but I don't really care that much, I just figured it'd be nicer for my neighbors to not hear it so early in the AM.

I am awaiting my new high amp alternator then I am going to get those logs for you. Base flash for the Evo 560's works very well, smoking slightly at idle very randomly, BLT holds 20 psi for lil over a minute. Soon as I get those logs for you I will be making another donation.

Have one guy beta-testing, but haven't heard back yet.

My car is down for the winter/snow, so can't test myself. Need some people to step up and help out, for a release before spring.

Hey ceddy, I been down for 2 weeks getting my new turbo installed. I'm just waiting on a few things from FP to get it finished. That and for the past month I been sick, have been to the ER 2 times in a month. So I will be ready for some more testing and tuning this week.

Now I had on my car a 16g, how much are my settings gonna have to change with the 6152e I just got. My timing curve is set for the 16g I will have to add timing before 4000 to help spool up and off boost power back when the 16g was already hauling and I was at lower timing. And now I will have to tune between 4000 and 7500 cause before I wasn't really pushing the old 16g. I had the injectors dial in for WOT but not dead-times as my fuel trims are still reading .1 volts in Evoscan

That sound about right?

Also when you gave me the deadtimes for my injectors I thought they were PTE 680's and I have then scaling on them now to work at 535cc. So should I look at different deadtimes settings to start off at if these aren't 680s maybe there 550's?

I have a 99 ECU; I sold a 99 GSX and threw in my EPROM to keep the reflashable ECU.

I just haven't gotten the Evo 8 ECU idle control or the cold start quite right; the DSM 1g & 2g ECU's, seem superior for that.

I'll get the 1.9 Alpha uploaded and send some emails this weekend.

I think the Fuel Trims not responding has to do with the Rear O2 not turned off correctly. The Evo guys have the same problem,

16G -> 6152e is a pretty big change. I'd start over with a stockish timing map. If you are running significant boost think you are going need to lower timing up top a little, but don't have experience with that exact turbo.

You will probably start running out of injector soon, also.
 
I'd be willing to do some testing, if I was able to swap my eprom back in readily. I've got a 6-bolt swap with a 1G CAS. I can't remember seeing it, but do you have a feature to invert the CAS signal?

I've been following this for a while, and I'm pretty interested, especially if boost control gets incorporated.

That would only be required for a 95-96, and I would just swap the injector and plug wires instead anyways.

I have to have the invert CAS box checked in link for it to run.

I've got my stock ECU and the OP 2.0 cable, so I'm pretty much ready to go otherwise.
 
I have some stuff coded for a Inverted CAS Patch, but need someone local to test it.

95-96 are the only CAS with the goofy inverted signal. All other 4G63 CAS are "normal", 1990 1G to Evo9s.

Link needs the Inverted CAS checked because it uses a 95 ecu, which expects a 95 CAS signal.


A 98/99 ecu is fine with a 1G CAS. The only issue that may arise, is if you don't use the standard 5 degree base timing, you can get misfire codes.
 
Can you send me a stockish timing map for the big maps I don't think I have the original one you 1st sent me.
