OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

Well you can either take it to a shop, pull the motor out and look, or if it will start which is a good sign, fill it up with oil get underneath and get nasty. Just my .02
Hope tge best for ya man. I really do.

Keep it between the ditches:hellyeah:

There's supposed to be a little bracket that holds your downpipe to the front of the engine block. Yours is broken, unbolted, or missing.

When your brother popped the clutch, the torque against the exhaust loosened or broke your turbo and/or manifold bolts allowing the turbo to move a little, breaking one or more of the oil lines to your turbo.

You probably better fix that before it happens again.

EDIT: Oh wait, not a turbo car. Disregard that entire prediction.

GST is a turbo car, but FWD .. not like the GSX being AWD.

Sounds like the main rear seal popped out from behind the flywheel..that would be my guess if it's in the middle part of the assembly...

That's a tranny removal and drop, removal of the flywheel to replace that main seal...

Or, the assumption above was correct about the oil line breaking.

sounds ####ing expensive

Get a new thermostat. and next time always replace the thermostat when u change a water pump on any vehicle. its just good practice

tstat changed today, thanks for the input guys! car isn't overheating anymore and the blower motor is blowing hot air again.

car is going to storage this weekend anyway. Just weird timing that it would go before I put her away.

thanks again,

Instead of wasting money on a new thermostat if your not 100% sure, heat up some water in a kettle and put it in a container and toss your thermostat in and see if it opens.

And I did mean from the firewall. Lastly, are you overheating as in boiling over or is the gauge saying your overheating?

Joel

Edit: I got ninja'd by the OP haha. Glad to hear that it's working again!

I have a 91 talon awd and i am having a problem with overheating when the car is running and not moving. The gauge seems to work correctly and slowly starts to move to the middle as the engine warms up and will stay near the middle but when the car runs for awhile when its not moving the coolant will start bubbling out of the overflow but the guage still doesnt read hot. I have changed the coolant temp sensor, thermostat, and the radiator cap.

Hi, im new to DSM i just bought my first eclipse 95 GS last weekend.
But your profile states you own a 1995 GST....so which is it, GS or GST?

(someone please tell me how to turn my fan on all the time)
Turn on the A/C or run a temporary jumper wire from the fan to the battery with a switch and a fuse in the line.
also there is an oil leak. its pretty big i just put 1qrt in and its already gone.
If it's a GS, the head gasket it leaking.
please if u can also give me a price range . ty!!
Price for what? Depending on what you're looking to get done and who's doing the work, it will range between free and more than the car is worth.

Hate to say it, but HG is likely the cause. Buddy just went through this on a new build, ended up having a metal shaving between the HG and Head.

Oil leak, over heating - everything points to head gasket.

That's the main concern

Lol it was headgasket

my car is a 1995 GS it wouldnt let me choose gs when i signed up so it says gst,. and it was head gasket

Hi everyone, I have been looking for a DSM to buy for the past five months now. I found one that is close to me and reasonably priced. The owner of the car tells me that he's having overheating issues with the car. He says that once you get past 4K RPMs, that's when the temp starts to rise. He told me it's not leaking any coolant and that he just replaced the thermostat a couple weeks ago. Now my question is, what else could be causing the engine to overheat? I don't want to make a mistake and but something that needs thousands of dollars worth of work, before I even get the chance the really drive it. Thanks.
