Could anyone possible elaborate why my car won’t start!?

Backstory - The car has a button start, I’m still fairly new to all this but over the past couple weeks I have noticed when trying to start the car (Pressing the push start) it will have a delay for a couple seconds then finally start cranking and fires up.

Well fast forward to the past 2 days It won’t start at all!🙃 The lights on the dash come on but when I go to push the button absolutely nothing happens no crank no nothing. Any information would be great! I have checked the wiring for the button and it looks good I’m getting power. Could it be starter relay or ignition switch?

But my question is since I’m using push start and not key start could the ignition switch truly go out still?

Since the cars didn't come with a push button start you'll have to uncover and document how it's installed.

It's important that it's done right since the ECU is expecting to get a signal (same one that normally activates the starter solenoid) telling it that the car is being started and it has programming for starting.

I'd start with the factory wiring diagrams and figure if the car has factory thief or any aftermarket alarm/remote start then how it's been modified for the push button start.

ECMLink can log the START signal so a quick log would verify it's seeing it or not. Car doesn't have to actually start just try to.

The push button was installed to bypass the relay I belive for the starter or ignition. To be honest it has been around 15 years ago so I dont remember exactly. The starter is new as i replaced it shortly before the throw out beariny started making noise and sold it, but that dosnt always mean its good and not the culprit.

Try applying 12v to the signal terminal on the starter. Don't have it in gear, make sure its in neutral. Turn on the key and grab a wire long enuf to reach from the Spade terminal on the starter to the + on your battery. It will/should spin the starter. Whether it will start or not IDK, but that should activate the starter.

I got it working again guys thank you all so much!! The button was completely fried! I bought a new 50a button and hooked it up and first try Boom she fired right up! How would I go about adding a relay to prevent this from happening again?

Wire a standard 4/5 prong relay from the battery to the starter. This will remove the amp draw on the push-button and put it on the relay.
Battery to terminal 30
Ground to terminal 86
Pushbutton OUT to terminal 85
Starter Spade terminal to terminal 87
🙂
Here is a drawing.
