i have a 91 tsi awd, the other day my car was running fine, put a quart of oil in, went to the barber. And when i came out the car had a hard time starting, When it did start the sounded like a diesel engine, or as if i had performance cams, some of that sort, drove it home left it, Now when i went to start it all you hear is whump whump ........... ext ( thats kind of the best way to describe the sound) i have new wires, im going to get new plugs when they get them in stock. im scared because thats kind of what my old car sounded like before it died but that also kept stalling mine dose not do that at the moment.
also i would like to say that i had a cracked valve cover (witch i just replaced) and i was thinking maybe oil got down in the cylinders? if that could cause a problem i dont know? but this is the last video i have of the car running
the sound when i try to start sound exactly like in this video before it starts

It almost sounds like a of your litters are ticking. What is your oil pressure like? It might be low because of a bad oil pump. I'd check for oil leaks to make sure there isn't something besides the pump making you lose oil. You said you added a quart so maybe you had to because it's leaking?

*edit* I forgot to mention this, but did you reuse the gasket and are you sure nothing fell in after you removed the valve cover? The hissing sound could be a leak in the gasket that you put on.

car sounds like it has lumpy cams?
Q: when you start the car do you have to throttle up in order for it to quit "sputtering" so to speak?
because by the sounds of it i jsut ran in to a similar problem, and although a not so great answer to be heard but look in the timing belt. possible it has slipped a single tooth as mine has and you get your boggy desiel sound/ lumpy cams effect

i was loosing oil due to a crack valve cover. the car does not start anymore, i replaced the valve cover after the car had "died" the video was to show the last running condition of the car.

the timing belt goes over the cams right? if so when i took the cover off the belt looked brand new

What's your compression?

compression is unknown. dont know how or have the tools to preform the test, and i dont know if it matters my car wont start

when i turn the key to the on position i hear a ticking/buzzing/rattling type of sound. and same when i turn it back to the acc position, after a while trying to figure it out it started to keep making the sound so i took the chance to figure out where it was coming from, and i was hearing it from the ?ECI? what could this be, and whould this be something that will prevent the car from starting, because also my car does not start.

The mpi should click when turning it to the on positon and the start. Im having the same problem with a no start motor and i have already ruled out the mpi.

im not sure you understand, let me say it this way i keep truning the key back and forth and here the sound every time, and it would go away but i kept doing that then i kept hearing it so i got out of the car, so finally see where it was coming from, and i just keep hearing that sound, i dont think my car is supposed to be doing that, because it never did before

MY BAD I MENT TO SAY ECI I BEEN READING SO MUCH ABOUT MY CAR NOT STARTING THAT MPI WAS STUCK IN MY HEAD

can one of the mods please change the mpi to eci in the thread tittle please

You need another ECU for that one has died on you.

It's the MPI (fuel injector) relays that you hear clicking which is controlled by the ECU.

Now, does the motor turn over and not start? For if it isn't, then put on a new battery and see what goes.

what does the ECI have to do with the ecu i dont know if you miss read that but im talking about in the engine the eci multi the thing connected to the TB and yea the cranks and all that it just dosnt start i have a another thread about that with videos

If you can utilize google you can find out how to perform a compression test, and if you have $20 you can buy a kit to test it.

thats it $20? wow i thought that would be alot more for some reason but im going to check compression tomorrow

Should be $20 from Harbor Freight, it's just a hose with a spark plug thread adapter and fancy bleed/hold gauge.

about the tech article and other things i read i do i get the warmed up if it does not start?

what i mean is what says ECI MULTI RIGHT ON THE OBJECT BEHIND THE VALVE COVER

LOL "the object" funny.. Theres tons of things behind the valve cover. If your car isn't starting check for fuel delivery and spark, if those are working, then you can safely assume it's electrical. Check your grammars please.

At this point i am more worried about the noise coming from the intake mani, then the car not starting.

their maybe tons of things behind the valve cover, but there is only one that eci multi on it

Unbolt your ISC and see if that's what's doing it. There are no moving parts inside the actual intake manifold.
