California vs downpipes and catalytic converters

Is it necessary to get a punishment down pipe or should I just get a high flow cat and just bolt it on to maintain a STOCKY LOOK (<--- in caps). Mods in my list. Im not searching for 13 second passes, just enough for my butt dyno on a tsmall (I know which is pointless. Just needs a little kick). I am in Cali and a fine is hefty with no cat. Please exclude rre's downpipes!

being in cali i feel your pain and if your looking for some increased hp on the butt dyno while maintaining your stock turbo then a high flow cat will only make you $200 poorer. it is possible to get a dp that doesn't eliminate the stock cat and being in california thats what i would suggest...
why are you so opposed to RRE dp's? they make some great sleeper exhaust setups since the majority of their customers are plated in cali.

I agree. But the price makes me turn the other cheek!:ohdamn: It's kind of pointless because you get a down pipe and then hit the brick wall in the cat. The rre dp seems to oppose the purpose. It might be the last resort to try and avoid the $1000 fine I think it was!
 
Why not have a shop custom fab you one? Theres a really good local place here in Santa Rosa, if you want I'll swing by there tomorrow and get a quote for you.

Maybe the power will equal up to a punishment downpipe plus, it has the stocker look! It'll just be on a stock turbo anyways! But the price kills. On second thought, maybe just find a stock cat and poke the hell out of it!

I'm using that Cat with a 2 1/2"inch Borla downpipe & a 3"inch S.S. SR*S cat-back exhaust & i like it,Oh & a S.S. tubular O2 housing.We also have emissions laws up here & there pretty strict.

for what it is RRE prices are very reasonable, especially since they know what they are doing. last time i was up there they were doing sleeper downpipes with a "rally cat" fabed to it. visually it looks like a catalytic converter but its just a shell so it looks stock but inside its hollowed out, sort of like a resonator. then they weld it to one of there downpipes, they'll even matte black it so its not flashy before they ship it to make it that much more BORING looking.

^ heres the guy to talk to if you want the best product for the lowest price with the greatest performance while maintaining the "stock" look... cops look for chrome, anodizing, and colored hoses so if its flat black and it looks like its got a catalytic converter then to a cop its stock. :p

A good highflow CAT will see nice flow gains vs a stock CAT & keep the law happy (plus help out the environment). Running a CAT thats hollowed out isn't always a good idea. Cops are getting smarter, a simple tap on the case or now they've even started using IR (infrared thermometers) to check temps at the CAT, which will also tell them if its hollowed out.

RRE prices may seem abit high (but they are fair for the quality your getting) thats because they fab up their own stuff, its not done in China like alot of other products out there. Also they use heavy gauge steel/SS, etc. Not the thin stuff that you get with other China made brands.

I use to run a RRE DP when the car was fwd, I now run a Megan DP. I defently preferred the RRE, it was much more heavy duty vs the made in China Megan.
