I have a 96 Gs Eclipse and I am trying to get a new Catalytic Converters or high flo cat. Ive been searching on ebay and ive seen a couple different Catalytic Converters some with bolts on each side others with 3 bolts and some with bolts in different areas. I was looking at the cat that is on my car now and I think the bolts on it match up to this Catalytic Converter.

could anyone tell me if they know is this would work for my Eclipse and if they had any advice for me

thank you for the advice and I will not bump again and I should have a prob passing a CA smog test with the one you mention

The one I mentioned should be fine for the smog test. You need to remember that it is not legal to change out a working cat. The reason I changed mine was, because the stock cat was trashed and the honeycomb was coming apart so, I opted for a 3 inch cat that was carb, epa, and obd2 certified.

Who is to say his cat is even working? The only inspection the cat passed is the visual inspection. It is a good possibility that it isnt working by looking at the smog #'s. If there is ever a question as to why it was replaced, just show a copy of the first smog results and explain that is why the cat was replaced.

where on that site does it say the cat is carb, epa, and obd2 certified?

I was not telling him that his cat was not busted but, I was informing him of the laws concerning switching out his cat. Like you said, there is a good possibility that his cat is no good but, there is no way I can tell. I did not mean to come across negative. Thanks for pointing that out.:thumb:

I personally have always dealt with www.performance-curve.com because the are fairly cheap and are in the same state. If you check out their site, it lists a selection of magnaflow converters for CA. They are in the $180 range but is still pretty reasonable. They are universal so you would have to have flanges welded on it in order for it to bolt up.

I purchased their 3" carsound cat 5 yrs ago and only paid like $35 shipped for it. To this day, I still have it and it has less than 300 miles on it. It gets swapped on 1 day a year for inspection. The only emissions we have in Richmond, VA is visual and that is pretty lax. Cat and air filter usually is a normal expectation here, depending on where it is inspected, of course.

Well your first link is a Resonator, not a cat.
Also, somewhere here, someone was asking about
( http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclexhaust.htm ) cats (within the last 2 days) and got a response about the RRE Cat. saying how its virtually see through. from end to end.. if your budget allows.. this is where you should go. IF! its Cali Carb Eximpt. sorry dunno mutch about Cali carb rules. ala im in Texas!

Personaly. i would buy the cheapest autozone cat, have it flanged, along with your current exhaust. bolt it on. pass the test, the swap out for the straight pipe you Also had flanged when installing the new cat.. for obvious performance increases....

then tape up the New cat ilet and outlet. so no environmental issues plauge it. store it, untill next inspection. this is what i do...

Check this site out: http://www.car-sound.com/02product/universal/430.asp Search the part number. I know my 3 inch one is. It says it on the box that you get the cat with. I mentioned this to a smog ref and said its not a problem as long as it is on the box. But, find out for yourself and search their site.

I tried searching that site for this product number 642-94305 but nothing came up

Check the product series. Usually the part number that you see will fall under one of the series (ie 41200) check the number at the top of the page I gave you for jegs.com and see if the number is up there, then go back to the magna flow site and check.

I emailed Jegs.com about that converter and they told me this -

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately that converter will not

Meet your requirements. I also checked Dyno Max and the do not

Have an application in universal or direct fit either. It appears to me

To be a dealer only item. Thanks again for the inquiry and sorry we

Couldn’t help this time.

this is turning into a bigger headache

I don't understand what it is you want. Several people have answered your questions and sent you links with 50 STATE LEGAL catalytic convertors. Why do you keep bumping this thread? What is it you're looking for? Just buy one and get it bolted or welded on- it's not a big deal. They aren't advanced pieces of machinery that deserve 3 page threads. If you bolt that thing on- it will pass inspection as long as it is a real catalytic convertor, they won't go underneath the car to check it in detail.

I just don't understand this OBD2. The ad will say its OBD 2 APPROVED but then the next line under it will say its no good in CA. I have emailed the websites selling them and they tell me they don't have what I need and they don't know any other company's that sell the one I need. They are telling me its a dealer only item, Through the dealer its over $550 and I figure there has to be a cheaper cat out there that will work and pass. Its just been a big headache for me since this is my first and I cant even get it put in my name till it passes smog

that one is legal, it will bolt right up to your car. it has a ceramic element which means it will burn the unused fumes. i have it in my car- it passed with absolutely no problems. it has an o2 sensor port on it. it costs 145 shipped, and it's in cali so it will get there quickly. just unbolt ## old cat if present- there are 4 bolts. put this one on w/the gaskets that come with it, drive the car for about 50 miles and take your car to get in inspected
