Hey everyone, i need some advice from some smart DSM'ers.
I have as it says in my Mods list, a fully built 2.4 with a ported head and FP3 cams, as well as the full fuel system support. the bearings in my PTE SCM61/P-trim turbo recently went, damaging the compressor wheel and what not else. and i do not currently have the time or have it fixed or do it myself and would much rather buy a new, different turbo.
the 61/p trim spooled pretty well on this setup usually giving anywhere between 25 to 30 psi by around 4500 to 4700 RPM depending on my tune setup, etc.

But my main problem is that it has the turbine housing is the bolt on mitsu one and i know was choking it down. hence probably the reason it burned up the bearings faster than it should have. So i know the next turbo i want a T3 housing with 3" V-band discharge but my question is what do ya'll think would best suit my engine, etc.
the PTE 6157 with 4" inlet on intake and 2.5" discharge or
PTE 6162 also with 4" and 2.5" on compressor housing?
the car is a daily driver and im going to plan on tuning for 25 to 28 PSI with 50/50 meth injection, and maybe a 30+ PSI tune for hardcore track use if the turbo can handle it.
:thumb: thanks all.

If your getting a new turbo why stick with the 61? I would personally get a 6262 with a t3 82 hotside. Kinda weird how you were getting boost that late especially for being on a stroker. On my car with the mitsu hotside i was hitting 25 around 4500.

What you're describing to be a SC61 compressor with a P-Trim turbine would be a 6176, and this rotating assembly is not available from PTE with a DSM bolt-on turbine housing. You most likely had a 6152, which I've found to be one of the most failure-prone turbos in the PTE lineup.

My advice? Get the hell away from PTE journal bearing turbos. I don't know why anyone would want to give them more money after having one of their turbos fail for no reason. There are plenty of other more reliable and more efficient options.

Well I biought the car with the turbo on it and was told that, not to mention I looked up the guy here on dsm tuners who originally built the car back in '04 and specially ordered a 61 with a p-trim turbine. But I do get what your saying I just haven't had the time to research into other turbo companies.
With that said what would you personally suggest for my setup? But keeping in mind I can't spend a ton on a turbo right now. I was originally looking into used rebuilt turbo's but couldn't find one to suit my setup. Basically my limit is about 900.

I do also agree on the 6262 and that was another was I was looking into.

If that's all you can spend, you're really limited.

If you get a 6262 you're going to be disappointed unless you get a T3 turbine housing with a .63 a/r or larger- the DSM bolt-on version of this turbo just doesn't have enough turbine flow. You'll be running the piss out of it and wondering why you're not seeing the same results as the T3 6262 users, and you're putting the reliability in jeopardy again with the added backpressure the DSM bolt-on housing gives.

If you go with the T3 housing you're going to need a completely different manifold and wastegate configuration...putting you WAY beyond your spending limit.

I don't know what to tell you aside from get your current turbo rebuilt, hope it holds up, and save until you can afford to upgrade to something more reliable.

That's exactly what I had planned on getting (t3 housing with. 82 ar.) And I know it'll all cost more, im not worried about everything else that 900 is just my limit on a turbo, i've already ordered a punishment racing t3 mani, and i'm prepping for a 3" vband exhaust. I just need suggestions for different turbos.
