I'm wondering. I saw someone tap an fittings into the back of his block where the b/s was. ANd he said it was for ventilation?

Any ideas on this???? i'm totally lost.

Just a larger vent to help alleviate presser from the crank case.

The Ford 2.3 has that set up from the factory, a block vent, and a VC vent.

In the 4g, the block pressure is passed from the block thu the head on the intake side of the head and into the VC

Its def down there. If you dont have a BS then you wouldnt have to worry about going to deep with a fitting either. I didnt use my IM bracket but im pretty sure that the bottom bolt for the intake bracket is where you would vent from. Its very shallow. Had that bolt out and it spewed oil all over my firewall( i had BS so it may make a difference). Anyway, if the hose coming off it went vertical a good 12" i dont think you would push that much oil. Otherwise you might loose quite a bit of oil in your catchcan and be draining it constantly??. It would be like an unbaffled vc.

But with going up instead of goin over, maybe gravity would help pull mostof the oil back down. Ive thought about doing this myself when i pull the engine. I never had much of a CC problem though. The traditional vents on the VC along with a good kynar check valve in line with pcv take care of the pressure well.

would this also help with the issue of the dipstick lifting up(enough for oil to spray out, onto the manifold) under boost? i read it could be because of too much pressure in the crank case

is there any write ups or more information on this?

Here's some great info on crankcase ventilation: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/366890-4g63t-pcv-system.html

I personally don't see much point to a block vent on a 4g63. Many engines have an additional vent in the block because uneven piston strokes will cause rapid pressure changes, but that isn't an issue with these engines. I'm sure a vent in the block would also blow out quite a bit of oily air compared to lines attached to the valve cover.

Yes, launching the dipstick is a result of high crankcase pressure. Either your PCV valve is leaking boost into the valve cover, or your PCV system can't handle the amount of blow-by being generated. But a block vent is just one of many ways to fix/upgrade your PCV system.

The link I posted above has tons of info on this as well.
