Not worth it.

Yes the LSD insert does help alot, if you are interested in one, PM me, I have info on best place to get it cheapest.

Come one now. These are not worth the metal put into them. You have a source of a good review, but if you type in a search yu will find MANY MANY people dissatisfied with this type of, dare I say, LSD.

Spend the extra on a true LSD and you will love it. I have riden in a quafe (sp) car and a PG insert car. Night and day. To me the insert is iffy at best and is prone to break. While the diff is solid and provide great traction, atleast better than most.

The insert is an example of a cheaper alternative to a potentially expensive problem.

FWD DSM Times

Not to mention Gavin ran his 10.0 at 4000 ft of elevation (Rocky Mountian Raceway, SLC, Utah). He also does not daily drive that thing either. But it sure does turn heads. I am going to upgrade to atleast a green but ALOT of people are pushing me to a 60-1 also. A few friends ran 12s this weekend, one with a 60 trim another with a 2544 until he blew his diff and popped a few holes in the bell housing, both FWD.

For every negative review I find I come across 3 positive ones. Now am I saying the LSD insert is just as good as a Quaife or KAAZ unit? No. Is it worth the difference in price ($200--->1300) Yes I think it is. I have ridden in a GS-T with the LSD insert and it was a significant improvement in traction and virtually eliminated the wheel hop over a non-equipped one and prompted my purchase on an insert as well. Even Mike Huml who races these cars and owns Slowboy racing likes his LSD insert. I don't see where these are PRONE to breaking. They have improved spring designs over the early pieces and I haven't seen any instances of the BM or SFS units breaking. For improved 60ft times, no wheel hop and better traction for 15% of the price, Ill take it:dsm:

Nothing against Mike, but he is no Tranny Guru. In my post I was only steering him to better product. Call up the guys at TRE and even Shep. I have talked to both alot about the tranny options and what not in my pursuit of a AWD tranny in a FWD setup. These inserts are not worth there weight in gold.

Reason behind me not going the insert route:

1
and
2

I am sure I can find others, but I am spending more time on this then needed. Just call up the transmission shops and get a real answer from the guys that do this type of work everyday.

I was going to ask exactly what an insert was...but then I looked at the pictures.....wowo I would never put something like that in my daily driven tranny. I would rather have the peace of mind with a whole carrier then just some insert the way it sits in the carrier just chills my bones.

I am looking to buy a new turbo set up for my 1g. I want the best setup for 1/8 mile track and street racing. I never go to 1/4 mile track, so i really don't care about that length of racing. I care about 1/8 mile times.

What is the best set up you guys can think of?

i already have 680cc injectors, a FMIC w/ blowthrough set up and MAFT. I am just looking for the best in spool up vs. pwr ratio for my needs.

Waaaa????

A nice good 1/8th mile turbo is an EVO III 16G.
Well, I agree a fast spooling turbo would be good for short distances, but an 1/8th mile track is still long enough to get a really badass turbo to spool, so why not go for it?

No, my Waaaaa? was directed at the guy telling him to run a GT-30 on the car. :)

i was wondering which is the best turbo to get if you have an auto tranny and don't want to switch you stall converter. By these means a good turbo that will let you build boost from the line (5psi or more) without having an aftermarket stall converter. thanks :talon:

i got one (14b) but i just seem to get 2lbs of boost when i powerbrake and that completely sucks cause i can hear my turbo spooling but it doesn't get any more than 2lbs until it hits 2600rpms and then it get the boost really fast. And my stock stall converter can only reach 2400rpms when i powerbrake so i'm having problems and i think i have a boost leak or something like that. cause the turbo doesn't have any shaft the only thing is that is leaking some oil little drops once in a while

hey, i have about 5-6 grand to spend on my car. everyone says follow the tuning guide, but im thinking of trying somthing different. what about cams(272's), a bigger turbo, exhaust and intake? or maybe ill do the tuning guide stage 1 and then a bigger turbo? if i do, which size turbo should i get...i want something that can be a daily driver, but i also want a car to kill all the honda's and crap like that around here
:dsm:

since your car is stock here's what I'd do:
Full 3" exhaust
255lph fuel pump
safc
datalogger
intake of some sort
FMIC w/ short route piping
BOV
Boost controller
Boost gauge
egt/fuel pressure/ or oil pressure gauge
660cc injectors
act 2600 clutch
Turbo:
as far as turbo goes, you have two options... Full garrett or mitsu hybrid. You can get a bolt on 50-trim style turbo, evo manifold, and evo o2 housing for about 1100 bucks, or you can go full garret w/ an external gate for about 1500-1600.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something... and you'll probably have some money left over, but that's a start.

Substitute the ACT2600 for the CFDF 2500 for less pedal pressure and strain on the clutch assembly parts.

Turbo:

B16G for quick spool up, fun around town and kill the hondas. 300HP tuned on pump gas.

SCM50 for slightly more lag (better so your FWD can gain traction) and much more top end than the 16G and better utilization of the cams benefit. 400HP and severe ownage of most other cars on the freeway.

also a AFPR for that 255
clutch and flywheel
LSD cuz you'll need it with those mods

Im not quite sure he needs that AFPR...I know a lot of cars that put down some sick power on a stock FPR....Ive been told by a reputable shop that the stock FPR is good for about 500hp so I dont know....to me an AFPR is just bling...like a AEM fuel rail etc...

what would be a good turbo for my car after i install 660cc injectors, fpr, and some type of logger? mods are listed in signature.

thanks,
joe
