Automatic, is it worth it?

I have a 98 GS-T and am a newb to the DSM game. My car is clean but is an automatic. Are there any auto-experienced DSMers out the that can give me hope? I'm following the Stage 1 upgrades but before I start I want to know if anyone out there can testify. Thanks.

My rs automatic has been turbocharged fore 6 months, and I still love it. Only thing I hate

is the sluggish feeling when I'm taking off from a stop. I'm to afraid to brake boost I heard

that can put a lot of strain on you're transmission.

There's nothing wrong with brake boosting, as long as you are not holding that power on the torque convertor for an extended period of time (As this will balloon your convertor) and also just allow the transmission time to cool down between runs.

I personally do a lot more daily driving than racing in my dsm, so the auto makes it really nice. I have a manual camaro, and the shifting really gets old, especially at 6am commuting to work, shifting and drinking my morning coffee doesn't mix well. Its nice to be able to just hop in and press the gas, but you know the powers always there if you need it.

If your racing more than grocery getting, than 5spd for sure. But I'm actually glad I got an auto.

Plus... they just came out with shifter paddles for DSMs that will turn our 4-speeds into 5-speeds by using Overdrive as a 5th gear. And not only will you shift quick still because the shifter paddles keep it a auto tranny but you can select the gear you want to be in.

If I wasn't using one hand to hold some plastic trim I just epoxy'd together, I would Google it, so my recommendation is to google paddle shifter kits and there is a site that sells universal ones.
