I have been doing some searching today trying to see how us automatic awd guys launch, what upgrades you do, how much the upgrades cost, etc. I am not referring to the turbo, injectors, and ecu differences. I have the 14B turbo and soon plan on getting the 450cc injectors and 5speed ECU.

First off, how are you guys launching? I have a nearly stock TSi AWD so how you launch your 700hp AWD wouldn't be relevant. I don't like how my Talon comes off the line. I have tried powerbraking but nothing extreme. Just held the brake pedal in slightly while about 1/4 throttle then releasing the brake. But not enough to build any boost. Is it possible to build max boost while powerbraking?

I know there are several upgrades for the auto trans (ipt high-stall converters, etc.). What have you done and what would you advise me to do? How much did you end up spending on your trans total?

A 5speed ecu will help you greatly on launch..And Like I told you before 450's and the manual fpr would be my suggestion..And if you havn't swapped out to a manual or 2g manifold and 02 housing that will help greatly as far as flow is concerned..The auto manifold and 02 are the smallest ever put on a dsm..They suck..

Do not try on an auto ecu, because the longer you brake boost the shittier the launch will be..But on a 5sp ecu you can brake boost as long as it takes..I have even launched in 2nd gear with the 5spd ecu...

Now all you got to do is put it in gear hold the brake and give it throttle. Till your boost comes up.Some guys use the ebrake too but is not needed..

There is also a brand new stall converter for the 1g autos..I'll dig up the link for you..

Also a built tranny is not needed for the auto..People have ran 10's on stock auto cams, and stock trannies..

Is there a certain amount of time I should hold the brake? Wouldn't that heat up the tranny fluid depending on how long I hold it?

Hopefully I can find a 5speed turbo 1GB at a junk yard or buy everything online if cheap enough. I get so angry because I have done alot of work to my Talon. Mostly maintenance. Alot of maintenance. And alot of replacing things that are jacked up, rigged up, and not supposed to be there to begin with. I feel like I am so close to spending money to make the car quicker.

Auto cars came with trany coolers..I have never im my 4 years of owning my car ever seen the tranny temp light come on..But IPT sells an updraded cooler if your worried about tranny temps..

Getting the 5speed ecu is the cheapest way to get rid of ahorrible launches on auto ecu's..But if you wanted to which I suggest down the road if you plan on adding more power is dsmlink..You can use on an auto ecu and reset it so it thinks it's a 5speed..I just went out and got the 5spd ecu..But doen the road you bet I'm going with dsmlink..

The only problem with running the higher fuel pressure it's it's goiing to run like crap most likely..If you set it up with everything the 5speed ecu is already tuned for, You should run great..And not need to tune because it's already tuned for what it is supposed to have..

I know that converter looks like heaven for us auto guys on the track..

Odd that the 5spd ecu couldn't compensate for a 4% difference in overall flow.

But yea i see what your saying bud, upgrade to all the 5spd parts with no need to tune.

I know your getting your post count up, but I just said that 91 talon..

Yes it will require no tune to use all the 5speed parts..But You can still tune if you want to get a little more umph..But that will require an eprom and dsmlink..Cause dsmlink is just that badass..

Not all 1gb's have an eprom..Your friend was blowing smoke up you keester..My stock ecu was not an eprom..But my new one is..LOL

I always thought they were all eprom's too but then you learn that their not..

Why don't you just ask the man him self. (He made this thread for people like you) Eclipsed4speed's 16G Auto Car Build you can catch Jeff Bush on Dsmpurity in the chat box on the right handside along with many other legends sign up, and meet the folks on there many of them are on here aswell, and are all nice people.

Wow. Another good project log. I am going to read all 19 pages. The first page alone intrigued me alot.
