I am having issues with my 1992 eagle talon tsi awd as far as the tranny goes. When I first start up the car it will hesitate for a few seconds before it engages into reverse. Once I get it backed out it takes a little bit for it to go into gear but it does. Once the engine is completely warmed up it loses all forward gears and will only go in reverse with a few seconds hesitation. I had put it in drive and it wouldn't go anywhere but I was able to push it forward as if it were in neutral. Just looking to see if anyone out there has any solutions for me. I am planning on a fluid/filter change this weekend but I didn't know if that is going to help with the issues im having.

I recently purchased the car and the first thing I did was change the oil which was black and looked as if it hadn't been changed in a while which leads me to believe that if that's the case then the transmission fluid and filter probably had gone even longer without being changed.

Could be a couple of things, could possibly be you need a fluid/filter change but i dont think thats your problem but lets hope it is, one thing you could check is your shifter cable might not be ingaging properly thats a easy check that you can do your self with a buddy. next thing that it could be is your , torque converter or your trans is just junked, is the fulid red? or like brownish red and smells burnt?

Check the fluid.

Let the car warm up and switch down all the gears from Park all the way down to 1st and back up to Neutral.
Keep it in Neutral and turned on and check the fluid.
Make sure the car is on a leveled surface.

It takes ATF+4. Might be worth a shot, who knows might just be really low.:idontknow:

first check the fluid level and condition as described above, if that checks out check the linkages, if those check out check the filter. if that checks out its either an internal transmission problem or a tcu problem. On the off chance you cant find the information you need on here Automatic Dsm's is a good resource for us auto tranny guys.

thanks for all the help guys....looks like I have a weekend project...LOL

one other thing ive noticed is that the previous owner removed all the emissions lines and egr. Are there any vacuum lines that would effect the transmission shifting? I had a chevy that had that problem years ago and it was a vacuum line that went to a modulator that was split. Just curious...
