i recently bought a 94 talon es with an auto tranny. i got this car at an auction in as is condition. once i towed the car home i found out that the car wont go forward at all. i changed the tranny fluid and filter but no real change. does anyone out there know what is causing this or am i going to need a new tranny? also reverse works perfectly fine only low 2nd and drive dont work. the wheels will turn with the car lifted but if you put pressure against the wheels the wheels will stop. I have no idea what i can do to fix this other than a new tranny, so if there are any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance guys.

Sounds like it went into limp mode - just barely operating.

When you did the fluid change and filter, how did the fluid look - dark, smelt burnt and how many metal particles were on the pan magnets..

There is one thing you can check: look at the wire connections heading to the top of the tranny. There are two large connectors and a small one. I've seen those two large connectors get turned around where it will create this problem. Try switching those two connectors and see what happens.

It's worth a try. Otherwise, that tranny has bit the dust. See if you can find a good used F4A22 tranny for it - from a yard, tranny exchange or even online JDM outlets..

I've been there and done that - had a mitz with an auto tranny that did worse: fluid pump within the tranny died and stopped me on the freeway dead cold. After I had a used tranny put in, the guy at the shop accidently switched the connectors and it would only operate in 2nd and Reverse -like yours is doing. After I figured out what happened and switched the connections, it ran beautifully.

Good luck - DSM

Sounds like end clutches to me. If the NA fwd tranny is the same or similar to the turbo trannys (I think they are) then you can get an upgraded end clutch kit from importperformancetrans.com for about $90. It is a half hour job for someone who has been in a few transmissions before or an hour job for someone who hasn't done it. The hardest part is the snap ring which requires two people and a good set of snap ring pliers if you don't have patience. The best part is you don't even need to take the transmission out, the end clutches are on the side behind the passenger wheel and you don't even leak much fluid.

hey i fixed my tranny all i did was switch the connectors. i guess before i bought it someone was messin with the tranny and didnt connect them together right. well thanks for the help guys
