are these cracks or casting marks.

So i just bought my first talon. Its a 96 tsi, and it looks like the previous owner drove it into the ground. I keep taking parts off and i keep finding more problems. last night i was cleaning my intake and saw some marks that look like cracks. I wanted to show you guys and see what you thought

It looks to me like some surface cracks, but I wouldn't worry too much about it if they don't go all the way through to the inside. Can you see any that appear to go all through when you look inside?

It doesn't look like cracks. Since it's so close to the tb outlet why don't you clean it out and shine a light in there to see if they are. But I'm almost positive that's either dirt or a bad paint job.

I don't think it's a bad paint job, because it's bare aluminum isn't it?

it is bare aluminum. and im going to give it a good clean this weekend and ill try to see if they go all the way through.

I couldn't tell by the pics. I've seen that on resprayed manifolds (some people do that to make it look newer).

looks like dirt trails.... rub yout finger/rag across them.. they smear.. then dirt/oil.. if they stay the same.. then its cracks.. dirt.oil will get into the cracks and you will not be able to smear it

Yeah..simple green or windex that shiz. I bet you'll be surprised.

i used some laquer thiner, cracks dissapeared hahaha thanks guys.

The guy that had it before must have really beat on it because the manifold has stretch marks.
