THIS WILL BE RESERVED FOR BEGINNER E85 QUESTIONS, FOR TUNERS THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF RUNNING IT OR HAVEN'T RESEARCHED IT YET. THE ADVANCED E85 THREAD IS HERE FOR THE MORE ADVANCED QUESTIONS ---> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/372386-alternative-fuel-e85-ethanol-corn-gas-e70-advanced-merged.html

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL MAKE THE BASIC E85 INFORMATION MORE CENTRALIZED AND EASIER TO FIND FOR THE DSM'rs WHO ARE JUST GETTING THEIR NOSE WET AND ARE UNSURE OF WHAT E85 IS.

THANKS,

GOFER

Has anyone tryed running E85 in their dsm? Their is a station in my area that sells it and it's not much more than regular gas. It is 85% ethanol and 15% gas and is 110 octane . It could be a cheap alternative to race gas.

And you think that petroleum is better? LOL:shhh:

Did you read the article? Petroleum isn't made out of food which is the point there (actually it is but a VERY long time ago) so yes I do think petroleum is better. Really, I just wanted to point out that jumping on the green bandwagon when it comes to energy discussion usually does more harm than good, as far as I'm concerned we should be drilling in Alaska (its pristine because no one ever visits it so no one will miss it) and exerting military and political force to stabilize S. America, that way we resolve our oil problems and conduct a humanitarian mission at the same time.

I know it isn't made of food, nor did i ever say that. My point being; there have, more than likely, been 10 fold the people killed over petroleum or oil fields, than there will ever be over the production of ethanol or biofuels. I'm not saying they are the answer to our problems, just throwing my two cents in.

What he said

both have their evils.

our fuel problems can be pretty much solved with one letter... H

I'd move to S America and live in Brizil, They don't seem to Have a problem Making Ethanol A Sustainable Fuel....:thumb:

O And since when does nobody go to Alaska? I've been to Alaska MANY Times.....And what makes you think anybody is going to drill there?
Nobody in the Us has built a Refinary since 1978......What are we gonna do with more oil stare at it? Sit on it .... like we are now already?

I think either way E85 has gotta be better then Some LEADED GAS that will just KILL MORE importantly My Wideband....ROFL

O well I realy do not G.A.$.

I have a question that is off topic but I don't want to start another thread.

[Next tme, do.]

Since I have 1600cc
injectors already would there be any problem just putting a 255 fuel pump in there and running it for a while?

Putting a 255 pump in where, the tank? Yeah there should be no problems, i am running 1600's just fine. Idles' a little rough, but not horrible. Should work fine.:thumb:

A 255hp with a rewire got me to a 11.32@128, on a 3052 in a full weight Galant vr4. But for me to be able to do that, I had to lower my base fuel pressure to 32psi. Trying to run 37psi of base fuel pressure, the pump would not hang so the car would start to lean out in the topend. This was all on 1600cc injectors.

I took a Peak at your Profile...Nothin there ... How much boost Where you running when you Ran That?

Just wondering What it Takes to do this with no Knock....(Seen your post in "My project: 10's on a 50 trim and stock bottom end" the other day)

Stock rods are good for around 500-600awhp. How long they will last you will never know tell they do that. The car was making good power last year to move my 3400lbs brick of a car and me to the 128traps

On e85 though what do you guys think my max psi or airflow would be on that pump with a 3052? Thanks for the information so far. Were you having rough idle even with e85 and 1600's

I'm sure brianawd could chime in on how much airflow he was running with his single 255, but according to some they are good for around 45lb/min-ish. Now, that's not law, just an approximation. If you're set on keeping the one pump, you should look into a Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump. It can boost the voltage at your pump up to 17 volts, that would carry your 255 a long ways. :thumb:

Do you just run the stock fuel filter then? Any problems?

Yes, right now I'm still running a stock fuel filter, i put a new one on when i switched over. I should pull it off and check it out to see how it is, but it seems to be working fine. I have a -6AN from the top of the filter to the rail though. The banjo bolt on the top of the filter is probably the biggest restriction in the stock feed line, so I'd look into replacing that at least.

Ok ive done some reading on e85 and i cant find an exact answer. to run stright e85 i would need big injectors correct? and a good way to tune. do you guys think a safc2 with a maft would be good enough?. yes i have wideband. also at the moment im running 25 psi on 93 octane on a 57 trim with 550s. to contuine to run that much boost i would need bigger injetors correct? would that big to much boost even with 780s? Also i may go with a maft pro setup in the next few weeks do you guys think it would be good enough ? im also wondering how your milage is and how the car runs over all. from what i understand the e85 burns cooler and is alot higher octane is this correct? thanks the info if you guys dont think the 780s would be big enough how big would i need to go ? thanks again!

DSMLink and 1600cc's would solve all your problems. I really don't think if you're going to run that much boost it would be safe to tune on just an SAFC/MAFT. I don't think 780's are going to be enough, I would probably go as high as 1200cc, which is why I suggested DSMLink and 1600cc's, since you can tune 1600's to run like they came from the factory. The person to talk to would be turboglenn, as I think he's been running e85 for a little while now and he probably has some good answers, if he doesn't respond to this post PM him and I'm sure he'll give you any information he has.

thanks ill do that 1600cc injectors dam i saw hes running 1000s i need to find out what the maft pro can handle for injetor size :)

Even with dsmlink you can not get the 1600 to run like they came from the factory. You can get them to idle ok but not that great. If you want the car to run and idle like stock the the 1150 injectors. If you cool with having you idle 1000-1200rpm then the 1600 will work.

i may go with the 1600s then i have no isc and the car has a hard time ilding when i start it up. I dont want to run link so like i said before im going to check the maf pro or i may go all out and go aem ems but im unsure yet. i really want to know what the mpg with e85 is

You probly will notice a difference in mileage, but the performance is well worth it.
For a fuel setup I would go with intank walbro and an inline walbro, or two intanks.
1000+cc is what you will want for an injector, and replace your fuel filter two or three times in the next couple months. It will clean your tank out for sure, and gum up the fuel filter.
