aftermarket radio.. shutting itself on and off

Its been doing this for a little while now, seems to be worse when its cold out. It isn't the deck, because I warrantied it at Best Buy because I initially thought it was the deck, but the new one does the same thing.

Anyways. If I try and change the channel, turn down the volume, or anything like that it will shut off and then turn back on. If I pull the deck out of its hole a little ways, it will shut off. Sometimes it will shut off without me touching it.

I checked all my wiring, and all wires not connected to anything are covered, so I wouldn't think it is shorting itself out.

Anyone had a similar situation?

if they warrentied the deck im sure they installed it too, isn't that warrentied as well? if they did do the install take the car back there and tell them somethings shorting out because it shuts off randomly.
i know that doesn't help your problem but thats what i would do if i were in that situation.
my 2g N/A has a sort of similar problem with its aftermarket deck that i had circuit city install. it doesn't do it when i hit bumps, remove it (why are you doing that with power applied anyway?), or turn down the volume but it DID do it when i turn the volume up too much. it ended up being a bad AMP ground so if youve got more setup in the trunk check all that wiring as well...

I installed it myself, I've never had problems with any other install I've done. I pulled out my system to make sure it wasn't contributing to the issue.

I'm not pulling the radio out, but I don't have my radio trim on because I left it off cause of the issues with the radio trying to fix it. If I slide it a couple inches it will lose power sometimes, or it will cause it to get power again. I've checked and rechecked my wiring, but it just seems like its grounding itself out somewhere? I just don't know all that much about this sort of thing...

How did you wire up the ground for the radio?

The factory connection uses the chassis mount but most aftermarket radios need a ground to their connector.

Did you use a wiring adapter to mate up with the factory wiring? Are all the connections soldered and heat shrinked?

The connections are soldered and taped with electrical tape. I did an experiment with connecting the ground directly to the battery, and nothing changed, so I don't believe the problem is with the ground wire.

I can literally just touch the top or side of the deck and it will shut off. Sometimes the screen will go blank, but the music will keep playing.

Could the harness be to blame? Maybe this deck is just garbage, I don't know.

What deck is it? Are you sure the plug is seated all the way in the back of the unit? What do you have connected to it? I just got a set of infinity 6 1/2" co-ax 2-ways. The box says that the impedence is 2.65 ohms. Which is unusual. If I hooked those up to an amp, it would be cool. But I want to put them in the doors and run them off the head-unit. Considering that they'll be wired in parellel with the dash speakers, that would make the system impedence for the front channels less than 2 ohms. I think that would cause the thing to shut-down every time I turn it up. What all speakers are you running?
