Ok I just got my machine work done on the block and crank. The crank didnt need to be cut and i have eagle rods. Should I and could I use the tri metal racing rod/main bearings? Or should i use the regular ones? (I would really appreciate an imput from bogus as well as all others)
 
since the crank didnt need to be turned did you have it polished?

I would use the tri metals.
 
When I had my crank and block done, the crank was in spec so I had it polished. I am using the tri-metal bearing with no issues. I don't see any issues with using the tri-metal as long as you buy the correct ones.
 
What HP range are you going for?

How often do you change your oil?
I have used both bearings, no issues from either (Using ACL Duraglides in a B18 build right now)

And I will be building a manley piston/rod 7 bolt with the ACL duraglides, he is shooting for about 400HP

I have built a Toyota 2ZZ celica GTS engine,SC w/ NOS, with some sort of "special coated" race bearings, then the same engine with the ACL Alumaglide bearings << Cheap bearings

The Cheap bearings heald up better in the 2ZZ

The race bearings have a bit harder face to them, so they will not embed debris as easy as "regular" bearings.

Also keep in mind that Regular and race bearings are built diffrent, the thickness is not the same all the way around the bearing
Race bearings are normally a tad thicker at the split than regular bearings
 
The tri metal and Race bearings have different eccentricity and also the Race bearings have lower embedability, as Bogus said above. For a street car like you're building the tri metals are the best option. Contaminants will become embedded in the surface of the bearing instead of scoring the crank. The race bearings are more for high RPM race applications.
 
Technically they're both tri-metal. The tensile strength of each bearing is the same. Perhaps this is where the confusion is coming from causing many to refer to the Race series as Tri Metal. ACL has three lines. The AluGlide are a bi-metal bearing. This is a stock replacement type bearing. The DuraGlide are a tri-metal design with higher tensile strength. They retain the excellent embedability characteristics and are excellent for use in modified engines. The next step up is the race bearing but they arent the best for all builds. The two biggest differences are embedability and eccentricity. When your oil gets contaminated with particles, they will become embedded in the softer top layer of the duraglide bearing where they cannot damage the crank. When this happens with a Race bearing, the particles will stay within the film layer which will gouge the bearing and score the crank. The increased eccentricity of the Race series allows for better oiling at higher RPM's and helps prevent "pinching" and distortion of the housing bore.

Each bearing has it's place. All of our street engines get the DuraGlide bearings unless the customer requests the Race bearings.
 
These are both in a set but notice the other ones say 6 bolt how come the set say 90-99 ?

That's because the bearings are for use for all years, however there are differences in each year so you need to select the appropriate year which is still between 90-99

I personally went with OEM bearings to ensure that all clearances were the same.
 
You would be fine with NDC bearings. OE equivalent. They also private label for clevite. Jackson and bogus what are your thoughts on those?

Never heard of or used NDC bearings, so I have no opion of them.
 
If JAM did the work, why didn't you listen to their advice (provided they mentioned which bearings you should go with)?
 
I wasnt around him to ask so i posted it here. He answered the question and i purchased some from him wednesday.
