So i blew the head gasket friday, and due to the misfortune ive decided to do an entire rebuild. Ive got a couple questions. First off only upgrade to car as of now is a 16g turbo.

1) which rebuild kit is good to go with? Im looking to maybe get 300 hp out of it. Im gonna keep the 7 bolt so keep this in mind.

2) want to upgrade the cams but nothing too crazy, want it to stay very driveable so which cams would be adequate?

Also anything else id need to get as close to 300 hp without completely breaking the bank and maintaining the driveability and reliability ive got now. Open to suggestions of all sorts

Does the turbo have shaft play? If not I wouldn't worry about rebuilding it.

As for cams a 264-272 setup would be very streetable, and still idle fine.

Thoses were the cams i was looking at but had no feedback to go off! Thanks

Turbo is good, just need to rebuild the engine!

When I rebuilt mine, I peiced the parts together from different vendors and the classifieds on here. I got a set of brand new rods, and an engine front case with BSE installed and new rod bearings for $100 from a member on here. Got some NPR pistons from the machine shop. I reused the crank. Got an OEM timing kit from STM. Evo 8 valve train from a member on here for $150. And so on and so forth. Deals are out there, just got to find 'em.

dual 264s might be a better setup considering you only want 300 hp. That will keep your boost response better (spool up) and you will get much more low end torque and power. (the top end won't be great but the low to mid will be good, which is mainly what you want on a DD street car)

For your 300 HP goal we could put together a real nice balanced and blueprinted shortblock and a little bit of head work to match those cams you want to use. We'd redo your crank, rebuild your rods with ARP rod bolts and use a set of replacement pistons or you could go with aftermarket forged. We'd deck, bore and hone the block also. For the head we could use a set of upgraded single springs (Manley or Kiggley), do a nice valve job to help the flow and mill it.

Give me a call or shoot me a message if you want to discuss some options and pricing. I can put together a nice deal for you. There are a lot of options, I'm sure we can put something together.

Can somebody please give me some direction on whats a good complete rebuild kit?

For 300hp a stock rebuild would be more than enough. There really is no end all "kit" for rebuilding these engines. Well, unless you want some made in Taiwan crap which I'm sure you don't. So I would go with NPR pistons, get the stock rods reconditioned, have the crank checked by a machinist, and get the block honed or possibly bored .5mm over if needed. I would also recommend Clevite bearings.

No problem. If you have any questions further down the road feel free to PM me.

Also, have you checked the production date of your 95? The "early" 95's come with some extra goodies such as EPROM ECU and Viscous LSD. :D

It does have an eprom. Also is the anything special about the block that needs attentiin when machining? Ive heard to make sure its taken to a machinist that know dsm motors but there isnt anyone around me. I mean the lower shouldnt need anything more than a cleanup pass on the crank, maybe a cleanup pass on the cylinders, and check for any issues. Its not knocking or anything, just the head gasket and it only ran bout 30u seconds like that. Just want to cover all my bases since im new to dsm's.

Your block will need to be cleaned up. Decked. The cylinders need to be measured, to make sure they are in spec. Depending on the results, you will either just need to get it honed, or you will need to bore it .020 over and have it honed.
