Hey guys!
I got just 1 question.. I was recently rebuilding my engine on my
98 gsx.. Put in new pistons, rings, ect.... Do I need to retune my car?
Even if I'm not touching anything but the head & block...

Thanks!

Why did you have to rebuild? Since you rebuilt is it probably changed the compression in the motor from one way or another. Did you have any head work done? Cams, or a valve job, porting or anything? It should be about the same but you may need to tweak it some.

Details would be super, but if you're car was actually tuned you shouldn't need to retune unless you were loosing so much compression that the fresh engine is going to start knocking.

Oh yeah! sorry about that guys... It was just a stock build. I spun #2 bearing, so replaced all bearings and just #2 piston... Got the head hot tanked and honned as well as the crank... Replaced all gaskets top & bottom.. Took it to the shop for them to hook up my wire harness, intake & exhaust mani, as well as turbo. Their charging $600 to do the job... Do you guys think that's a little to high? oh set up is big 16 turbo, 650 injectors, Wally 255 pump, aem fuel rail and regulator. Everything else is stock..

Thanks again! for the help guys...

The reason I learned to work on cars is so I'd never have to know shop prices.

Did you replace the #2 rod?

Lol! I know. just running out of time, I need my car done.. Its been down since October
Yes, replaced the piston and rod.. I got a deal from a guy here, he gave me 2 fairly good condition ones...

Good answer.

An increase in static compression will lower the knock threshold at higher load if all the other variables are held constant. It really depends on how aggressively it was tuned and how healthy the engine was whenever it was tuned last.

Datalog the crap out of it during break-in.

Thanks Buddy! ok one more question.. Do I go back to where I got my car tuned the last time? or even better how do I tune it myself... What will I need.. I gotta wide band

Maybe you could tell us what car you have and how it was tuned so we could answer that.

Sorry Buddy.... Its a 98 gsx.. I left another thread in the tuning fourms.. Thanks!

Sorry I'm new to tuning...

-16g turbo
-550 injectors
-AEM fuel rail
-fpr
-walboro 255 pump
-Everything else is stock!

To tune..
-AEM Wideband
-Safc II

I wanna learn how to do it so I don't have to pay anymore.... In the near future adding FMIC, and full catback exhaust...

thanks again for the help guys!

With the simplicity and lack of control of an SAFC I'd just tune it myself. Tuning to safety isn't hard. If your AFRs and Knock look good I'd just leave it.

Also, go buy EvoScan and a VAG COM 409.1 (or Openport 2.0 cable if you want to REALLY tune) so you can log proper.

thanks alot like i said i wanna learn.... i'll let you know how it goes.... later!

1 more question. When I get the evoscan & vag com 409.1. Where do I hook it up to? the car and laptop? sorry for the newbie question....
