I have had this clacking sound for a while so the car has been parked since it happened last summer. Above is a video I shot of it today. Any insight on where this noise is coming from would be greatly appreciated.

Important info to know:
1g head hot tanked and decked with fresh 1g stock cams, original 2g block, ARP head studs, cometic headgasket, AEM wideband, SAFCII and MAFT, Stock AFPR, Stock Fuel pump, 550cc injectors

Would love for this car to get going again. Its been parked for a while so it doesn't get further damage. Thank you.

Rod knockin it sounds like to me. Or possibly a bad harmonic dampener.

or the valves are hitting the tops of the pistons. that doesn't sound like lifters they are more ticky then clunky

Sounds like rod knock to me. I don't think valves could take that much smacking. Get a big screw driver or long extension and stick it on different parts of the block. You can usually get a feel of where the problem is. If its up in the head which it doesn't seem like it would be something with the valves or cams. If its in the lower it and you can feel it more on the side of the block it's rod knock.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Might be time to use that 6-bolt I have laying around for a rainy day. :hmm: thanks guys.

check your rear balance shaft. They inner bearing may have blown out and its slapping inside the block.

To be honest it sounds more like a main bearing let go. If it was a rod bearing, it wouldn't be so evident at idle. You'd rev it up and at the end of the rev, right where the rod unloads you'd get a knock. My car had a similar sound when I lost the thrust bearing. Not the thrust side mind you, but the bearing face. Luckily I caught it early, and just swapped out bearings. deff too heavy a sound to be lifters. drop the oil pan, look for chrome corn flakes.

yeah i agree it isn't rod knock. Rod Knock has a deeper Sound. it's not a bent valve that is high pitched. a main bearing is a ticking sound out of the front of the block. i would recheck the head and make sure everything is seating right.

out of curiosity...whats the oil pressure at? on a side note, when I lost the thrust, it was knocking out the back of the motor. Like it was right at the bell housing. drop the oil. Thats gonna tell you a lot.
