1G 93 windshield issue

So I got a new aftermarket windshield installed, it seems wider than the factory one and the trim that runs down the a-pillars doesn't fit anymore. My first thought is to cut the part off that goes over the clips and butts up against the windshield. The worry there is then it would lift and stress from wind while driving.. if that makes any sense.. iykyk I guess.. anywho.. looking for advice/solutions. Thanks in advance!

Where did you get your windshield? I have no availability in Florida.

Well, long story short.. I'm a mechanic or technician or whatever we are supposed be called. We hire a guy local to do windshields. I'll ask him. He should be in the shop sometime this week.

Did you measure old vs new? If it's coded, you can find the specs as they should be made to a service limit for size. Glass is quite regulated in the front for many safety reasons. I recently had mine done in the UK as my OEM one cracked itself sitting still. And it has to be perfectly level and measured to be placed central before the adhesive sets. So if the gaps left and right are not equal, then it might be offset. If it is equal, then certainly check the code and who makes it as they may have a production error

So our windshield guy cited copyright/patent reasons why the windshield is wider. He was a bodyshop guy for the city.. whatever thats worth.. I noticed it's not sitting down on the feet at the bottom so maybe it's shorter also? No measurements were taken. I removed all the stuff that needed to be removed to make his job easier. Didn't notice until I tried to re-install everything. It is centered, that's one thing I made sure of because the old windshield was off to the right (not sure if it was factory or aftermarket), made installing that sides trim more difficult but now they won't go on at all... here's a Pic of the only markings I could find. I could potentially get it 'warrantied' but I'm guessing they will all be the same.

I have a suspicion he used a "similar" make and models windshield and it's not exact to the 1G DSM and is giving you a BS excuse since the windshields are supposedly hard to find, instead of just admitting that he couldn't find one for your car and used a similar windshield instead.

This is what I found for it, the code is listed for the chassis but I wonder if its the Economy version so not made great! its my only thought on that but it does at least match chassis via part number. Only way to check is ask for the detailed part of what grade wwas used as maybe its that being the issue.
as for the screen not sitting at the base how far is that off? I moved mine up a small amount because the upper trim was a bit lower so i think we moved it up about 2mm and while it WILL narrow the sides more it wont be super bad to do that.

at the bottom you can see the small rubber spacers we used to raise it 2mm

So I spoke with him today and yeah he said pilkington glass co. He said you have to be a dealer/owner to order from them. He also mentioned import glass Corp, not sure if you have to be a dealer with them as he didn't say.. but yeah mine sits about the same as yours as far as the bottom..OK? far as the sides go it looks like yours is not as wide, looks like you have clearance between the edge of the glass and the plastic clips. Mine almost touch on both sides. I'll post a pic once i get home.

I do not have any close up pics of that but we moved it up 2mm to allow the rubber trim to sit nicer to the roofline as how it came off.

if yours is closer to the plastic clips then you may struggle more. you MAY be able to slide it down but I did not try this method as mine slipped over nice and smoothly as I took it off.

maybe someone else has an oem screen they can measure for you at a given height point to confirm yours vs theirs if they got their trim off

Here's what I've got.. Just tried installing again and they will not go.. if I feed the top in it will force the clips out, if I fit them without the clips they kinda go but the bottom side where the screws go is displaced quite a bit. I have had them off and on a couple times before I replaced the glass, they were finicky but they would go and it wasn't that difficult. Maybe if I manage to afford the higher quality glass it will be right? I'll talk to the guy again about it.. do you have any measurements? Also, note the top of the glass, the distance from the gutter edge to the glass at the top. It's roughly 1/2 an inch from the edge of the gutter to the edge of the glass. If that makes any sense?

Sliding it down would give me a touch more room, not sure what it would mean for the trim at the top.. so frustrating..

interesting the NEW clips have a pad and then another plastic part on it! thats odd considering the originals were alot lower. wonder why they revised the height? makes you wonder their logic

I think they were pretty accurate to the originals I removed. But yes appears the rubber spacers were added I guess. Hopefully doesn’t make the new/re-installs more difficult..

no its my bad on that comment, I thought they added another flat part on top of the rubber pad to raise it up more. the pic angle made it look slightly different design but I see and understand it now. the oem pad is foam or rubber? as yours and mine were not there so to me it must be foam and worn away, rubber would of likely been there over that time scale just dry rotter

Well, the measurements on mine are about the same. Is your trim installed now or ?
I tried for a couple hours last night and still can get mine back in. Gonna take it to the shop when I get time where I have more room to open the doors and try some more I guess. Thanks for the help and info guys, I really appreciate it.

I just checked my new ones Bobby and they are rubber, but just pressing on it to check lifted it away from the plastic. Whatever adhesive they used is like there’s nothing there. We will fix that before they go missing.
