Do not like the vents, but that looks great! Does it look as good as it does in the pictures, in person? Cause I wanna do this just for a temporary paint, till I save up for my Alsa Corp Jet Black with Candy Blue Clear (Oh Yeah!)

I forget what type of spray I used exactly to make the lip on my old GSX bumper black but Ill tell you what, It held GREAT and was very strong. I think it was duplicolor, but I cant remember if it was the wheel paint or the body touch up. Either way Nice even coats of spray and maybe a 1000 grit wetsand after every 3 coats. You can have almost anycolor you wanted and metallics. It would just cost more, and you would need a vented room or have wonderfull weather all the time.

This paint job now is for the winter I think. I have not decided yet if i want to redo another color in the spring, but for now, I just want to get this one completly done.

Does anyone know how well this would work with color matching? Like just painting a front bumper to match the rest of the car? Or a hood?

The Rustolem black matches pretty good I have'nt had a chance to pull it out in the sun to do a good comparison and wash the car. My factory paint is beat and I have to repaint the nose. I will end up doing it the same way as the hood with the lessons I've learned and maybe it won't take me a month this time!!

My car is teal so it might be a little harder to match. If you can get some pictures of stock next to restoleom when youre done that would be cool to see.

when you guys prepped the car before painting, did you have to sand off the original stock clear and paint coat down to the metal? or just clean it and paint over it?

All I did was block sanded it with 220 to make sure the new paint had something to bite into and to level any nicks, chips in the original paint. I then sprayed it with the Rustolem auto primer in areas were I went down to bare metal, sanded it again and then rolled it.

So how is progress going eclipse420? I ve been waiting to see the outcome. Oh and the hood looks good:thumb:

I have sanded with 800 on the final coat and will sand with 1500 and then buy all the finish touch products tomorrow like the turtle polish and the detailing items.

And when the paint it wet it looks like a million bucks, so I am hopeing the polish will give it that effect and if it does Ill shit my pants, because it looks AMAZING when wet. cant stress that enough/

I thought you would already have the car ready for paint.
Do you have all the body work done to it yet?

I started buffing tonight, but like the others say its not working to good that I can see anyways.. I dont know if im doing it wrong or what but Im just going to keep at it. I gotta read somemore I guess but for now I gotta study. Ill keep the updates comming.

Shit so I just laid a coat at like...9:30 and its still tacky, i think i laid it on too thick because it covered the doors that were green, you can still see they're darker but one more coat and they'd be ALMOST covered completely. I'm thinking a 3rd coat will complete coverage. Shit... so basically if I laid it too thick than a milky consistency is too thick, I even brought the milk out of the fridge to compare...

Yeah its way too thick... It's still tacky. Though that was in a 50 degree garage. I just pulled it outside to dry, I experimented with spraying some mineral spirits with a spray bottle onto a few spots. I'm not going to just go over it and forget about it. I need to strip it and figure this shit out. I'm pretty irritated.
What should I do to strip it while its still tacky?

From what I've read... it looks great when it's wet. If all else fails, shooting it with a couple coats of clear (not Rustoleum Clear) should give you the look your wanting. The only downfall to that is that you lose the ability to touch it up in the future.

I'm curious as to whether or not this is an issue only with the black color?

:toobad:Did not work huh i knew you should of just went with some cheap spray for your gun.
I would be mad as sh!* right now for doing this and it not working like they said it would.
:beatentodeath: So are you still not having any luck? All that work for no reason.
Live and learn.

I used the wrong buffing pad, I need to use rubbing compound on wool then polishing on a softer one I read. I jumped the gun on buffing..oops Ill get to it soon. Got one more test its shining up just not how Id like to see it yet. so after this new info Ill keep posting

Hey guys, just an update if anyone is interested....crickets...
Anywho, I did put the first coat on too thick. Whats funny is I didnt' even notice I was using Acetone instead of Mineral Spirits...I forgot I bought mineral spirits and feel like a dumbass. So thank god today was pretty windy, like REALLY windy. It dried all but a small area on my door but that finished up in the garage.
I wetsanded with 400 to mainly get any filth that had dried into the paint while it was outside, off. So that worked out pretty well. I diluted my paint as MUCH as possible. I even think I went a little too thin but i'm ok with it. It went on nice a little drippy but workable. I can still see a color difference between darker colored panels but this IS only the second coat. I'll probably throw another coat on tomorrow and then wet sand with either 400 or 600.
