Hey 420 this might not affect you since your painting the whole car but I can't seen to get mine to not look hazy. I wet sanded 600,800,1000,1500 and the used turttle wax polishing compond, 3M fine polishing compond and then waxed all with a machine buffer. The black paint is a real pain in the ass. The only way it looks glossy is after I paint it, but then its orange peel texture.

EclipseTrbo420A, Not to be a stickler... but what in the hell do you plan on doing about the door jambs? the area's behind the tail lights? All the other possible visible spots of white like where the antenna is... I mean, all this work your doing... you should get those area's done with something before you get to that shiny coat you've been working so hard on... and have to mask off all your lovely work.

I probably would have started out like you did... but would have used some Brake cleaner in the area's you couldn't paint ... Work my best on getting those area's able to take paint, and get some good rattle cans in that area... before touching the body.

I'm seriously thinking of building a sand blasting kit that I can use to sand area's like that down, perfectly... Cause I don't know about you... hand sanding things like that, sucks! I end up getting lazy and half assing the rest of it, or not finishing it.

Oh yeah, btw... The car looks great! Besides those area's. How much money have you spent total to get that look? Cause Were going to paint our 1st Gen GSX the exact same way you are. Black... :D

Sorry about those darker pics. But I already wetsanded the 6th coat today and installed the rear bumper and wired the reverse lights.

Tomorrow Everything gets coat 7, and thats when Ill start applying the nook areas with the spray. So then Once its all black I will install everything and then after that everything will get the once over by me and I will then fix/work on everything I think looks bad or not as good as it could. Im kind of excited.

As for that haze...I think I know what you mean its almost like the black has smoke in it in certain lights....I cant explain it, but I dont think it will be a match to the stock X13 ( i think ) the dsms come with. Thats why I had to paint roof over black as well.

I was looking at that regal red in the rustoleum color, but i just want to finish this job completly before I do anything. ALSO with out wet sanding, if I apply slowly and evenly with the roller the paint doesnt look half bad as it sits alone. Anyways Ill get the rest up tomorrow.

I ran down and grabbed my camera....Heres #6 wet sanded w/full coverage

Ill see what I can do for all that stuff and the windows are just an extension of the trim piece it runs all the way to the mirrors.

Mirrors? That metal/Rubber piece that usually dies on our cars and ends up chrome? Yeah, pictures of this would help me out sooooooooooooo much. I've taken that peice off of my ECLIPSE, was going to Krylon it since it was mostly chrome now from loosing the rubber stuff, But If thats a piece that can be removed, I'd love to know... I was told that it was actual sheet metal. Part of the body.

Nahh its rubbery, and runs along the entire roof there...check the last pic you can see it.

So its like glued onto the window, with a different dot matrix? Thats hot. Those are the windows I want now, just because of how different they are, I love rare products!

When am I gonna see the glossy black? It looks flat kinda, no offense. I know you worked hard but I'm anticipating the final result.

No our original paint does use clear. This technique does not. It didn't appear to make any improvements as sanding the clear for this paint makes it cloudy. It also makes it easier to repair the paint without clear.

Nice, and I just added another coat so thats gotta dry then tomorrow another coat, then thurs I will wet sand again...after that I will tackle when it gets here. Ill pst the pics from today up later with the rear end on.

So just alot of buffing then... Regular wax doesn't help with stuff like this... A good way I think to get a shiny look, would be to use some sort of sanding gel.

Repairing minor paint finish problems is easy!

• Scratch Out Liquid - Leading liquid scratch remover quickly and safely removes light scratches and haze from clear coat finishes.

• Scratch Out Paste - Heavy-Duty paste formula repairs the tough paint problems - deeper scratches, acid rain marks, bird dropping damage and more.
I use these products to restore the paints natural shine, should work fine in this situation. I also use these products to kill Headlight Yellowing.

The article im using said to use tutle wax polishing compund...Since it not agressive enough to eat through the paint. On another note the rustoleum is think paint, if its not thinned properly or applied to think the buffer will just swirl it around instead of "polishing" it...the paint must be thinned and applied thin, so it dries properly. It might not even hurt to wait awhile from the last wet sand to buffing just to make sure the paint is fully cured. Im going to stand back with a heat gun when Im done I think and just breeze over the entire thing or maybe a blowdryer just to be safe.

I was just reading on the Mequirs site that "color sanding" basicly the same thing as wet sanding has to sit for 60 days before waxing to let the paint cure properly or it will haze like the problem i'm having. I'm not waiting 60 days. Also after the rustolem paint hardens it is rock hard. I think I'm just going to clearcoat it and call it a day, I've burned through the paint in several areas now from over buffing and am tired of repainting this hood.

before waxing or before buffing ? The bugs and well anything dont stand a chance during wet sanding.

Both the Tuttle wax and 3M buffing compounds that I have say they contain no wax and after reading the articles that it up to the waxing point that your ok. The car craft article is the only one that I've read so far that states this.

well sort of.. I applied one last coat wetsanded down to 1000 grit and applied 2 cans on clear and it came out as good as I could expect for what I went through. I still have take care of some runs and wetsand the clear. I learned alot and next time be more prepared. I think with outher colors it might turn out differently and 420's job hopefully will not be as a big of a pain in the ass as mine.:thumb:
