Maaco Paint Job [Merged 2-7]

On my old daily driver I needed a hood painted, and went to a Maaco. I provided my own paint, and did my own prep and it came out alright. Not as good as the factory finish on the rest of the car, but passable (good enough for me, as it was an old car). Definitely better than what normally comes out of there. The guy there scratched his head when I turned him down to paint my entire car for less than what I was paying to get the hood done the way I wanted.

Having seen the paintjobs that regularly come out of that one, I would not recommend it if you are looking for a decent paintjob. Heavy orange peel and poor masking/overspray is pretty common. I won't generalize and just say they hire bad workers, as that'll vary shop to shop. The problem is mostly with how rushed the jobs are. There is considerably less labor hours put into a paint job at a Maaco/Earl Schieb type of shop than at a regular body shop. That's why they can charge so much less.

Maaco simply depends on how your local shop operates... go in ther ask questionsss, look around, and do research... I got pulled over the other night and I quote the cop. "What do you got in this beast?!" . I replied "Ehhh a lil something", and he says "You put more money into the paint job huh?" I told him I did... but I didn't! This is the first time Im telling DSM-tuners how much I paid and it was 1400 bux!? (needed a new rocker panel too) . But I am in love with my paint job.. They did a gr8 job actully! Perfect? no. but for what I paid its too my liking for sure.! If you look at my car looks like atleast a 5,000 dollar paint job (Take a look for yourself!?)

I had mine painted at maaco and they did a really good job.
All I had to do was take all my lights off so all they would have to do was tape the tires and windows but besides all of that it turned out really good.
And I have heard that they do use some what of a cheap paint but they use a good clear. The best thing to do is just go to the local maaco and see what kind of work they are doing.

But this is what mine looked like a year after being painted and I cant say that I have any problems with it!!!!

I had my front bumper painted by Maaco for $99. In the first day of getting it back it started to peel. By the end of the day over a quarter of the paint was peeled off. Never going back there again.

so im getting a maaco paint job for my birthday, one question i have is there are two paint jobs we are looking at, one has the clear coat mixed in with the base coat, then there is one where there is a base coat and two separate clear coats. Is there a big difference between the two, i figured i would get a more black color by doing a straight base coat and then shine better with the two clear coats.

make shure you prep the car yourself they suck at prepping
my bro paid 380 and it wasnt that good dont expect a lot if you take it to maaco just that it will all be one color

I think that base mixed with clear is referred to as a single stage paint job and is a no-no, correct me if I am wrong.

i got my MR2 painted at MAACO and im really happy with it..i kno a few guys that worked there so i got a little deal around 400 bucks but anyways i say its worth it but that is at a different shop. I had a pretty good MAACO experience.

and yes i prepped the entire car myself..so all they did was spray it..

I would stay away from the single stage paint-meaning clear coat mixed in. The reason it is cheaper is because it is crappy. If you do go maaco, prep it yourself and get the higher quality two stage job they offer.

I am considering going to Maaco to get my car painted, sticking with the factory black, but will need 97-99 bumpers, skirts and spoiler painted to black from cayenne red. Also will need some very minor dings touched upon and the old spoiler holes plugged and new ones drilled. I have about $2000.00 total to spend.

I want opinions from people who actually got a signature series job. I don't want to hear anything from the guy who paid $250.00 to $400.00 and had a horrible experience. You truly did get what you paid for and you aren't in the same league as a true base coat and clear coat job like the signature series. I also don't care about your sister's friend's husband's co-worker's experience. Only people who actually got a signature series.

I will be using the Pawtucket, RI one, I have heard nothing but good about them so far.
