k guys i know alot of people were waiting to see the final thing. its 99 percent done, prob wont post no more pictures after this. i am still waiting for my new front bumper cover so dont mind that, where ya go.

Beppe, looks great, I kind of skimmed through the entire thread but this is just the roll on method with rustoleum correct? Have you buffed the paint yet? I'll have to post pics in here soon as well. I'm about 50% done with mine so far and its coming out really good. Great job on your car, black is a hard color to conquer, you did it perfectly though!

yes it is i learned a lot as a went along patients is the key. if you have any mechanical skills and are really good at it you have painting skills also! just have to get up and do it. you will learn a lot as you go along. no this was not rolled on! it was SPRAYED on! yes it takes a little more time to tape things up etc but i feel like its the right way to do things post some pics when your done

yes the paint is fully buffed even though it pretty much looked that way anyways while spraying it. but color sanding and buffing makes the paint ultra shiny takes out the nibs and makes it smooth

Here are a couple of progress pics i snapped with my phone. I don't have anything hi res on it yet but I'll get some when its closer to completion. I rolled on the paint with those foam rollers. I was going panel by panel but that was taking way too long so I started putting a coat on the whole car at once. Its easier to deal with one panel at a time but cold weather is going to be here really soon so I just want to get it done by then. The last pic of the trunk lid looks like glass in person, the cell phone pics really don't do justice.

I have found it easier to just wetsand as needed. Everyone recommends wetsanding every 2 coats to eliminate the orange peel but for as thin as they go on it doesn't take much to sand them right back off and I haven't had much orange peel at all.

My Talon is needing a paint job and I really don't have money for a high pricey paint job... but want it to look red and glossy...

Check back acouple pages, I decided to scrap the rustoleum for the normal method.

The car I painted still looks good though and I am painting my talon here on the 17th with a few new additions to my painting arsenal . Ill try to post pics of that whole deal when the time comes.

Any suggestions for a color? 97 talon with 2gb eclipse sides and rear kept talon front and wing. 99 black leather and if I find the balls to cut the roof off tomorrow It will be targa. throw out some colors. Im using PPG paint this time.

Oh I know... But the white/black Talon... its still painted with the 50 dollar paint right... Cause didn't you paint another the pro wayand leave the white/black talon with the rustoleum paint?...... Thats the pics I wanna see.

Ohh no, see I quit that when I rrealized it wasnt going tp buff correctly that car has been sanded down for months. Thats what Im painting here in a few weeks.

Great thread everyone. Just read for an hour & both methods look good.
To bad all the pics from beppe are missing/deleted.
I want to paint my car before it looks horrible.
It seems that everyone is doing all this prep work, wet sanding, etc. which is the most important part of painting IMO. So if you do all this prep work and have the extra $ why not get a macco job at $300 w/ a warranty? Just wondering. I've seen nice paint jobs come from macco, its all in the prep.
Bring them a perfectly prepped car and you'll get a damn near perfect paint job.

i JUST got done reading this entire thread after like 2 hours and i am turned off by the roller idea although it seems great for the money depending on your cars paint condition.

anyways, 420a, youve mentioned starting threads about paint jobs you might be starting on, i was wondering if you were going to being doing any write ups about the job your about to do on the black talon.. ive always been interested in painting cars and have a shitload of spare bumpers and stuff i would like to start working on over the summer..

i know its already a pain in the ass to paint a car and then on top of that documenting everything, but for guys like me who would like to start little projects like that but have no idea where to start that would be awesome if you did that.. so jw, are you going to write a thread about the next paint job??

ive heard that if you prep it yourself maaco does a decent job as well, but ive also been told that prep is 90% of the job..

so $300 for a guy to spray on a base paint, and a base clear doesnt sound worth it to me!
my gf's rs started to crack and peel after only a couple months and maaco would not fix it, those jack holes

all maacos are different though, the one she used sucked

REally? One of the last photos I saw, the entire front half of your car was glossy as hell... sure looked great.

Yea that was right after wetsanding so there was alittle water left making it glossy. It really was that smooth just not as "bling". My problem was trying to buff it out. It never came back to that shine and I tried everything, so like some one said above if your doing prep work just paint it the real way.

I will say this though. Using the HVLP wagner gun. the paint shot very smooth and mixing it with acetone made the paint much more durable. The rolled on paint I had done came off with a fingernail in someplaces, but the sprayed on test panel took a good beating and still looked 100X better. I kept my wagner around for painting things like suspension parts and these subframe connectors Im fininshing today.

As for those write ups, although I would love to, I may or may not. Im only messing with stuff now because I am on spring break and they even swammped me with work to do now, plus I start an internship monday. If I have time though Ill quickly jot down good info here and there to help but really I just searched google on HOW to spray and the things needed for a paint job. I actually listed them early in this thread...to that I add a Regualtor at the bottom of the gun and I also add a inline water filter. Anymore questions let me know.

yeah dude im right in the middle of reinforcing the frame for the tagra and everything. Did I see you on campus at duquesne on monday? I was walking through the the Allegheny County probation building for my internship and there was a white 2g at the light with CF hood and 2 silver and 2 gold rims hah. Was that you?

now that i got some painting skills i will probably attempt a real paint job i am looking at maybe midnight blue i even found some acrylic enamel with a compatible clear! so i might go that route also

Heres my contribution, tractor enamel FTW!!!! First time spraying thru a true gun. Flat black was cheap, and easy.
