Maaco Paint Job [Merged 2-7]

Dame. That's one sweet paintjob.

When I do get her painted (which I might just do up at your Federal Way Maaco), I want to stay with the red it had from the factory, but much brighter. Any ideas on a good color? I don't know them by name.

Each Maaco is independently owned and operated, they hire their own painters and so forth. I got mine painted at Maaco three months ago and paid for the absolute best job they could do. Full prep, full clear coat etc.. I got out of there paying $1066 total with tax, of course talking them down a few hundred. The color is electron blue pearl, from 99-00 Civic SI's, my paint shines awesome. It is a lot better than the teal/aqua color I had before. Do some investigative work on local Maacos, checking out their work. It looks like you live in Shelton, I got mine painted at the Federal Way Maaco (good reputation). I don't know the distance you would have to travel, though.

A Ferrari red might look nice. Maaco charges a flat rate for paint, so I paid the same even though electron blue pearl is very expensive. They also have lots of books with color names and samples, so stop by and check them out sometime. Your job will be even cheaper they won't have to paint door jambs and such.

$1000 for a good paint job really?. Jeez, I was quoted 4k /w all the labor and with stock paint again.

i guess my family just has the hook up. my uncle got his old el camino repainted for 1500 including the entire bed with sanding. didnt get it jammed cuz he painted it the stock color again.

on a side note, does anyone else just hate it when people paint a red car yellow or blue, but not the door jams or under the hood? drives me nuts.

can someone thats gotten a maaco paintjob post some pics? I will be doing all the prep work on it and the car will be staying the same color ... I just want to get all the dents and key marks out and also paint the hood the same color as the rest of the car. I really don't need it to look perfect but I'm still kinda hesitant. It's for a 1995 talon esi ( my new daily driver ) and they aren't using enamel, but "real" paint instead.

heres a few for you. They did a decent job for what shape it was in. If you get up close, you can tell it was a cheaper paint job. But i get checked out and i get compliments.

how much did they charge you and is that pic in your profile after the paint? Did you do any prep work? I'm gonna take all the dents out before I take it there and fix the key marks and scuff up the whole car so all they literally have to do is spray it and final sand it.

I had them do all of it, (make sure you look at the link i just posted, I was editing it when you already saw my post). My total cost there was like $750. That all consisted of removing dents, mounting the wing, filling the holes, prep and paint. Just the prep and paint was 350 i believe, they had a special going on.

here is a shitty paint job done by them. seriously spend the money and get a real job done. go to somebody who will wetsand the paint and then clearcoat it along with buffing and a rubbing compound. if you are planning on doing that much prep work then the actual painting itself shouldnt be that much more expensive done the right way rather than the rip off paint booths. the car in the pic is mine and that is how it was when i bought it. you really need to think about the expenses in the long run also, considering if they do it then you will be redoing it again sooner or later anyways.

Maaco, like every other chain, will vary in quality from shop to shop. And, it will vary from shift to shift, depending on who's doing the shooting. The often-echoed myth that Maaco (or Earl Schieb, Miracle, et al) will have the best painters because they do so many jobs is often offset by the sad truth that many are only there until they make enough for their next batch of crank.

Ask the parts people in your area. They'll all know who the best painter in the neighboring six counties is.

I went there today with the car and talked to them for a while ... they showed me 2 cars they just finished and they looked really good. I'm just going to tell them I'll give the painter a $100 tip if he does an awesome job so hopefully he will then make it look good. I'm going to remove all the dents and key marks in it from the previous owner and they are just going to spray it. They said for $400 they'll make it look really good.

The car was supposed to be done wednesday or thursday so I gave them a extra day which was yesterday(friday) when I called them and told them I was coming to pick my car up the guy told me "well we havnt even started working on your car yet" I was like whattttttttt? I thought I was going to lose it. So he tells me well I was going to start working on it monday. I said oh no ur not I'm coming to get my car. I get there and the guy tells me well u should give ur self more time...what an assh*le have any of u guys been through this garbage with maaco b4?

I had my car done at macco down here in LA and they took an extra day or two as i recall
I even made it easy for them and striped the car of all the trim, headlights, and spoiler. but they were busy. and the prep is more important then the paint! Dont sweat it bro, you cant rush a good thing! BTW i was only 768$ out the door and that was with upgrading to there best paint and some minor body work and a 5 yr warrenty, so whats a coulple of days?

I would've done the EXACT same thing.. That or demand to be comped which I probably would've tried first. Just go to a different one.

I have been seeing quite a few paint jobs maaco around town and they are not bad paint jobs. I'm real anal about time and if someone asks me for a certain amount of time. That's the time I'm giving them and not 1 second longer.

i agree.... i hate when paint and repair shops take forever... i dropped my truck off to get bumper put on, and they said it would come the next day... they ordered the wrong one twice, then didnt order the right one for another 3 days after returning the bad ones... so i had to leave it there for 9 days because they kept telling me that the order is coming in tomorrow...

find a different macco

I wouldnt rush anyone working on my car for anything.....Because you dont know what they do to your car....the longer they take the better, IMO. Then you know that they didnt half ass anything.

Generally I'd agree that if they're taking their time doing thing's right, that's better, but he said they hadn't even STARTED on his car yet... in which case I would be LIVID! Of course, in the past my dad has had a car painted by Macco, and they did a great job on paint... but he stripped ALL the trim, pulled the engine (he wanted the engine compartment sprayed) did all the bodywork, completely prepped the car, and all that had to be done was roll it off the trailer and mask a couple extra things (he already masked the glass, but the tires and rims had to be covered) and spray... in your case I would be pissed off and seeking some form of restitution - if they wanted to keep you as a future customer, they'd better do something... but don't expect a free paint job. Ask them to give you a discount, or a free upgrade, or something though.

Has anyone ever had good a good experience with Maaco? I need to get my daily driver painted and the price seems decent, but everyone talks bad about the company, but has never gotten a car painted by them.

Anyone here have some actual experience with the company?

From personal experience (several friend's cars) Their jobs are OK, if you're looking to stretch your money the furthest. Might wanna do the prep work yorkself, and if you have any skills working on the auto body, I'd do that myself too, if I were you. However, this is just my opinion and YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

wash everything down with dish washer soap to remove the grime. Then go ahead and mask off all of your plastics, windows, etc. Then go to down with some 280 grit sand paper. after doing the car an initial time, wipe the car down with alcohol (or just make sure it's dry after you wash it again). I would run it over with some 320 before moving onto 400 for the final step.

then you can have the maaco guys do their job (painting), since none of them know what prepping is.

using this process on ALL of teh body panels, rims, etc. and using shitty VHT paint.. all parts I've done have lasted anywhere from now and 2years+
