A MAACO paint job...oh no!

May not look bad now, but how about in a year or two?

The main issues I've heard about them is the lack of prep work, and the terrible quality paint they use.

I know this is late but I had my Jetta painted there 2 years ago for $350 and it looks good. No leaks or blemishes. Just a slight orange peal if you look closely. Its been through hell with me and still looks good when I wash it. I've never waxed it.

As far as masking and covering. I always have them give me a call before it goes into the paint Booth and I check it

It just occurred to me that perhaps they take the wheels off to paint? :WTF:

Well if that's the case, I have wheel locks so they couldn't have.

I figured they have a tire-wrap mask, but I don't know.

Yeah, I didn't have another set. I got mine to replace 1987 wheels that were beat up and the tires were trash.

I don't think it would have occurred to me that when you bring your car to be professionally painted, that they paint things like headlights and wheels, but that's just me. ::

It belongs to me now, I've had it for about a year and a half or more, completed the awd 5spd swap this summer
Ill make a thread about the swap sometime when I have time, the paints holding up well a few flakes on bumper but oh well.

For only $500 and change I'd say you made out fine. I had a friend who had a MACCO paint job on his truck and it held up for years. I would however be pissed about the door handles. All in all though it looks like you got your moneys worth.

I probably shouldnt tell you a friend of my couzin will paint my car for about that, including paint costs and body work..That's lso IF I help him mask shit off and what not tho,, and buy beer..

So let me tell you. I've read SOOO many bad things about a maaco paint job, it's unreal. However, I hate white on this car so I decided to get it repainted. The job cost me $540..and I thought it would look like shit. Well here it is

I know, it's just one pic, but because of working daylight during work hours, obviously, it's hard to take pics (these pics are coming from a Palm Pre mind you) so when I get free time (Sunday), I'll take more pics.

Looks nice so far...I wonder if you can take your own paint in????....hmmmmm I need some new paint and really don't want to spend a months wages on a decent paint job....

Well what about for just a paint update or whatever who or where should i go for that? i have a white 2g spyder and it needs to get freshened up on the paint side. will going there be ok just for a paint over or what should i do? and not looking to spend a lot of money either thread never die!!

It really depends on the specific shop. There are 3 Maacos within a 40 minute commute for me. One of the does quality work, but you still get what you pay for. If you go with a single stage color/clear its not gonna last.

The best thing would to be doing all the prep work yourself, and then get a shop to do a 3 stage primer/paint/clear. I would make sure its a reputable shop as well. One of my maaco's does good work, the other 2 aren't worth shit.

I'm thinking about getting that 300 dollar paint job. If this plastidipping doesn't start to work out. I'm making too many mistakes and it looks "pitted" kinda like burnt rubber got slung on my hood

If I remember correctly, they put on either 1 or 2 coats. I'm pretty sure it was 2.
