So I can usually find out anything I need to know by looking around the forums at other peoples questions, but for some reason I can't find a damn thing about this. So it's posting time.

To start off I sold my old automatic 98 eclipse rs n/a for a manual 97 eclipse gs spyder n/a. I got it for a steal ,however it has 196,000 miles on it and to be quite honest it feels like my transmission is going to fall out of the car going into second and fourth. :ohdamn: The engine seems to run great for all the miles it's seen but I'm looking to bring it back to new.

Now here's my question. What's the best way to go about this. I could get the machine work done on the block and head and put the same motor back in the car, or I could do an engine swap. My only problem is parts being difficult to find for the 2.4 4g64. I know about Curts website being devoted to helping out with that. But how hard world it be to swap it out for a 4g63? Also I'm going to get the transmission rebuilt depending on which direction I go.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

The 4g63 would drop right in. You would need to do some "little" mods such as wire up the turbo CAS, wire up the knock sensor, swap in a turbo ECU, and I would highly suggest finding a turbo trans (and all corresponding parts such as axles) if you plan to boost either engine.

But if your up for a build and want great torque along with power, then I would look into building the 4g64 with lower compression. If you swapped on a DOHC head, found a way to mount the knock sensor, and were up for a bit of rewiring, then everything else would bolt right up. You could use 4g63t parts such as manifolds, turbo, injectors, etc. The 4g64 is really just a 2.4 NA version of the 4g63 with a SOHC head. If you followed Curt's site it would truly be a breeze and you would end up with a more powerful engine in the end.

I do know that the 4g64 is very similar to the g4cs which is also a 2.4. The 4g64 is a 7 bolt I believe and I know the g4cs is the 6 bolt version of the 2.4. I dont know exactly why a lot of people dont do them. I dunno if its the 7 bolt thing that scares them or if its just easier to do the 4g63. I do know that you can use one of the spots where the AC bracket bolts on to mount the knock sensor unless you plan on keeping AC.

Can someone please post a link to Curt's Site, I used to read it many years ago, but am unable to find it. i thought that it was 4g64.com , but that is currently not working.
Thank you in advance.

It was 4G64.com ... The site is no longer around. You can view pages using wayback machine to view archived old pages, but prepare to deal with broken links and a lot of stuff just not showing up.
