Im building my 2.4 with a 4g63 head will be running a small 16g for the time being but will be stepping up to a fp red or something of that size within the next year. My head already has to be surfaced and blocks at the machine shop to. would it be worth taking the material off the block to run a mls or can I just clean the block surface and run a mls or stick with composite 16g will be maxed out and final goal is 450hp bottom end is getting forged internals.

I've always been a fan of composite hg with L19 headstuds. It's like an insurance, hg goes before something worse happens. I'm currently on 31psi on a t3 s362ett with a composite hg and L19 headstuds.

A bad tune will destroy either one.
A good tune has people running over 500 on a composite.
If the deck surface on either side isn't true, neither will seal properly and both will require material to be removed, albeit MLS to a much finer degree. You've got the head side of that covered, but you'd need to trust your machinist for a proper finish on both sides.

Let's just say you can run either. There's nothing saying you HAVE to run a MLS gasket at this level. You're in that "buyer's choice" bracket, so nobody can really tell you which way you must go. Everyone will offer their own personal opinion based on their own experience, which can be tainted with bad tunes and warped surfaces anyway..

Which one makes you feel more warm and fuzzy?

I have been running a $35 fel pro composite with L19's for years on a 60lb/min turbo @30PSI and have yet to have a HG issue. And if there is an issue in the tune, I would rather my $35 HG pop than start melting stuff.

awesome was really wanting to use a composite didn't want to have to have my block decked at machine shop. that's good news thankfully im a Mitsubishi mechanic in Charleston, sc and there was only 1 factory dohc 4g64 composite gasket left in the country so I ordered it! thank you guys.

I have used Mitsu OEM Composites and Fel Pro Composites. Both have worked equally fine for me.
