half moon? the cas was only just recently a week ago installed by a mechanic, sounds like it could be the o-ring on the cas? il go out and put my hand under it now! but it doesnt make sense to leak from that as its to high up on engine to leak that much
valve cover gasket is dry as a bone and bottom of cas is 100 percent dry and below that is this
yea ok il have to check that out, its defnatley coming from that afrea of the photo which is something bolted to the block unless there is an oil line above it which is damaged, not sure. im trying to google the 4g63t dohc vr4 engine manual/components
yea its a little hard getting a decent photo as the engine is in a mitsi l300 van on its guts, so i can barely get under it to take photo, and engine also sits under passenger seat which makes things even more difficult haha
yea im trying to find on google where exactly the oil galley plug is, its def not the valve cover gasket either. hmm, it has me stumped at the moment haha
that would be awesome man, its not a daily driver van, more just weekends and the odd weekend at the track so im in no rush! she still starts and drives fine at the moment but i wont be after finding this leak haha thanks for your help mate
yea i want to spray with degreaser and take her down to car wash and spray off with water but now i dont really want to drive her haha. i will defnately jack her up tomorrow after work and degrease and somehow wipe it down and then check to see where its dripping from, such a mission being in a van i tell ya! i actually thought aout it, and the oil leak has gotten a hell of alot worse since i put thinner (semi-synthetic) oil in. but even still, the patch of oil on the road under the van after sitting there for 3 days, is about 1200mm by 600mm haha its a big puddle
man im not to sure about that actually, i never did the conversion, and to even see the turbo, i need to get me head under the van which i cant even do without jacking her up cause shes on her guts haha. what do you mean using the head location though? or plugged?
either/or, i rekon you could be onto something there, the oil feed to the turbo did cross my mind and if it runs between the cas and the thermost housing then it has to be that!
thanks mate, so your saying, on the thermostat housing, in total there are 5 oil ports? and the 1 above right of the circle which is open, is the main feed? how is there oil ports on thermostat housing? i had no idea. but the oil leak on my engine is leaking from between cas and thermostat and the whole thermostat is wet and dripping off the bottom of that down onto gearbox and everywhere else from there
On the thermostat housing's side of the cylinder head (i.e., the side pictured in pic 2 of post 17 in that link), there are a total of 5 oil ports, 4 of which are or should always be plugged. Those 4 are the ones that look exactly like the one circled and one of those could definitely be the source of your leak. The turbo oil feed is the 5th port and not where your leak is coming from if you are leaking from the area on the cylinder head between the CAS and thermostat housing. Just to be clear, the thermostat housing does not have oil running through it.
The ports that are circled in the second picture are practically behind the thermostat housing if it was installed. The CAS would be in the location where the black circular plug is installed on the top head of that second picture. The big holes immediately to the left of the circled ports are for the thermostat housing (coolant only).
