Hey guys, I just joined the website recently but I have been reading through the forums here for a while. Thank you for all the information and manuals this website provides.

Anyway I have kind of an odd situation, I have a 4g63 sohc in my forklift. I know it’s not in a car but a lot of this information cross references and I figure I will post it just to show a different use of this engine.

Currently I have the head off of the engine, originally started as changing the water pump. After finding out replacing the water pump Required taking off the timing belt I figured may as well change the head gasket as the engine does burn oil/water and smokes pretty good when it’s warmed up.

The forklift currently has 15,150 hours on it. From my research that is equivalent to approximately 530,000 miles. This engine does run off of propane. I will say the engine looks like it has a lot of miles from the build up of deposits.

Are these high of miles common with this engine? My Toyota Yaris currently has 325,000 miles and still runs beautifully but it sounds like Mitsubishi knows how to make a solid engine as well.

I will be attaching pics of the engine so far and thank again for all the help and letting me join.

Semi-related: 4g64 engines in generac generators

It does not come as much of a surprise that Mitsubishi engines are used in equipment outside of automobiles. The SOHC engines are a great choice because they are fairly simple (I.e., non-interference) and economical machines. Thanks for sharing!

Do you have pictures of the belt side of the engine? I’m curious to see the oil filter housing and oil pump, simply for reference.

I will ad some pictures I took of the timing covers off, be warned it hard to see what’s what due to the engine having an oil leak for a very long time.

It’s interesting I have been ordering certain parts off of rockauto using 1992 Mitsubishi galant sohc for the selection and a lot of the parts do match. Of course there are some differences including the distributor, water pump, intake and exhaust manifold, radiator, fan belts( this one uses 2 v belts 1 for radiator fan and other for alternator and water pump.). I’m sure there are others but those stuck out to me.

Now I have be able to order oil filter, spark plug wires were a little short but did reach, valve cover gasket, camshaft seal.

I’ve had a good time going through rock auto and seeing what fits and won’t fit this engine. I also bought a digital copy of the service manual and I’ve been comparing the manual on here, they are basically identical except this website covers the dohc and 16 valve model.

Anyway I have attached some random pictures from the tear down, if I get a chance I will take a picture of the oil filter area.
