I've rebuilt my 4g37 and installed a new timing kit, and now I'm trying to determine if I am using the correct timing mark. I see a small notch behind the washer on the crank sprocket and was using that to time the engine. Reading through old threads, it seems as if no one could provide a straight answer about said timing mark. The FSM and Chilton manual both say to just "align the timing marks" but do not provide any detailed images of it. See my picture below. What mainly has me confused is the faded mark that someone has previously made. Everything was covered in rust and oil prior to removal and I did not check how it was oriented before teardown. Other pictures included to verify proper timing, does this all appear correct?
I felt very confident in my work but the car is having problems that it should not be having after properly being rebuilt so I needed to double check. Thanks,

No, it doesn't look correct. Where you marked w/ white marker on crank sprocket is a wrong spot. I think you are about 7~8 teeth off at crank now. The timing mark to set the timing belt A is on the crank sprocket for "balance shaft", so if you want to mark it on the timing belt sprocket, you have to mark in the same spot as the notch on the balance shaft sprocket.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean. So I need to use the mark that you circled instead of the mark I was using? Thanks

I'm confused too. The Overhaul manual for the 4G37 shows these:

While this IS marked for the B belt they don't provide any different marks for the Timing belt (That I could find).

Since it's not an interference engine, I'm not afraid to try it either way. I will time it up using the mark that @DSMPT has circled and I will report back.

This is the correct timing mark. Not only is it more visually appealing, but she runs like a Honda now. If I had looked a little closer the first time around I'm sure I would have noticed it. Thanks for the insight everyone.

Why do you need a timing mark on the crank sprocket "A"? That's making yourself confused. You don't need it since you are supposed to set it already when you install the balance shaft belt. The notch on the crank shaft sprocket "B" (Where in the blue circle) is the only mark you use to set both timing belt A and B. Otherwise what you are doing doesn't make sense because you are putting Two different degree timing marks on the same crank which means the piston position, valves and balance shaft are out of phase.

Yes, that's the one I circled w/ blue above.
