ok i have a 1.8 in my laser and i want to make it alittle faster off the line how do i advance the timing do i do it with the distributer cap or the cam gear?

Bad idea unless you are modded pretty well. Have the ignition timing checked.

You are talking about 2 different types of advanced timing. One is ignition, the other is valve.

You advance the ignition timing with the distributor, and the valve timing with the cam gear. I haven't heard of many na tuners advancing the cam gear unless they had different cams and an aftermarket cam gear.

Great thing about your car is that you can do what you want (if I remember correctly) with the valve timing and never hurt your internals because it's not an interference motor.

i advanced my timing , on my 1.8 , and i am now running 91 octane , i didnt notice any diffrence really , im about to return it to normal position so i can run 87 again.
