2g Wheels and Tires Size Questions [merged] fit fitment

18x9 is a really wide wheel.

Did they pop out a little or did you tuck them into the fender real nice and neat?

Howie~

I had these same wheels in a 19 inch before they were a little to wide because I remember with my car lowered If I had people in the rear seats and went over any little bump they would scrub. I rolled the lip on my fenders just so that they would fit better, it helped some but still a hard bump it would scrub. I figured these 18's would be perfect and not scrub. There awesome looking wheels. But I dont want to damage the AWD at all so please advise if this would be a wise decision or not, thanks.

The only reason i did it is because I have the widebody on my car and for some reason the rear is ALOT wider than the front, other wise you are correct it is better same width all around.

18x8 in the front with a 235 and a 18x10 on the rear and stretch a 225 tire on it

so you had a smaller tire on a wider wheel? that wouldnt look right. youd have sidewall on the front wheels and almost none on the back wheels?

I read this:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97471

But didn't understand at all....The closest size to mine I saw was 8.5" rims with the same size tires as the ones I want, and it said fit with rolled fenders....I don't even know what that means. I know absolutely nothing about wheels/tires even though I have been trying to figure it out for about a week now.

My rims are 18x8, and tires I am looking to get are 235/40, will they fit with no modifications?

here's a tire calculator:

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

i use that pretty often. it give you a good idea of what to expect. but it's a good idea to take some measurements and do the math yourself when it comes time to commit to the buy.

here's a link that helps explain the tire dimensions in a nutshell:

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireDimensions.dos

seems like your wheel/tire combo will be ok, but what is the offset on the wheels? that plays a major role in deciding whether or not your setup will clear your suspension/body.

rolling the fenders takes the lip in the wheel well and bends it up/back to give you a little extra clearance. here's some infor on fender rolling: http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170003

Is there a way to find out the offset by looking at the wheels? Is there something I can measure? They are the optional wheels off of a 2006 Eclipse GT.

Oh and I put one on the car without the tire and it fits fine, but the suspension looks pretty close, not on the top of where the tire will be, but on the back top side....Maybe an inch or so of clearance with no tire.

you can't just look at the wheel and see the offset. i tried searching for the offset on those wheels without much luck (didn't spend a lot of time though).

you need to measure that clearance. if you have an inch with that wheel on there, it's going to be really close because the width of that tire you want is about 1-1/4" wider than the wheel. half that and you'll have 5/8" hanging over your wheel on each side. so with 1" clearance on the wheel, you'll have 3/8" between your tire and your suspension. make sure you're taking your measurements about 21-3/4" from the center of your hub (or roughly 3-3/4" from the top of your wheel).

Will thinner tires fit the wheel? Like 225's? If so, I don't have a problem with buying smaller tires....Sorry for knowing nothing about any of this.

Offset is usually stamped or cast into an unmachined surface on the back of wheel. Is often preceded by the letters "ET." If the wheels you have are true to the line of the first 3 generations, they will be +46mm offset, same as all the others. If so 235/40-18's should barely fit. The need to roll the rear fenders will be dictated by suspension modifications.

I dont see any ET, but I do see a 46 DOT. Thats probably it.

And that last statement about the suspension...It's stock, and I don't plan on changing that soon, if ever.

need help on tire size choice and fitment

wheels: 18x7.5 with a 42mm off set

current suspension: stock
future: Eibach pros and KYB AGX shocks

Wheels and tires will be used all year round and looking for a good ride with no fitment issues with as close to an even gap all the way around the tire when my new suspension kit is put in. And of course some sweet looks.

What tire size would be best? will they even fit?

I have already searched and there are a lot of threads but they everybody has a different answer. I have 225/40/18 right now and I would like to run 235/40/18. Would that be possible?

The rims I have are BSA 264 18x8 and with the an offset of 40mm. The car will also be lowered using Tokico adjustable struts and Eibach pro kit springs. The springs are rated 1.2 inch drop all around. What do you guys think?

Let me takee a shot at this.

What calan means is that using the tire size he recommended would be closer to the stock tire size in overall diameter and how it would effect your speedometer. Also the revolutions per mile of the new tires will be close to the same revolutions per mile that fo your stock setup.

Kinda hard for me to explain, but I hope you got it.

EDIT: Darn, you beat me to it calan. LOL

Sorry, I believe my nubeness came out-kinda....i was right while being wrong.

and yes, Calan I did read your post :) the thought of the speedo being off was taken into consideration before buying the rims but... :) i kinda fell in love.

Going with what was said by Calan and using the tire calculator. It shows that the 235\40\18 would be extremely close to your prior tire size. So the rubbings that you have now, if any, would probably be the same with the new tire...I believe.

Use that calculator and you will be able to see the exact dimentions of how close the tire set ups actually are.

EDIT: This is the 3 tire sizes compared together....
