I was wondering if anyone knew the part number for the o-ring that seals the connection between the thermostat housing and the hard pipe that runs behind the turbo from the water pump? Is the o-ring at that connection the same o-ring that seals the connection at the water pump? It appears that I may have a small leak there and I was looking to seal it back up. If I remove the thermostat housing, is there any other seals worth replacing as well? (Besides the thermostat housing gasket itself). I just wanted to have all the parts ready so that when I do pull it apart I can put it back together rather quickly. Thanks!

Yes.

No other parts need replaced that I can think of, except possibly the thermostat itself (MD315301). There are no thermostat housing gaskets on 2g's, they just use RTV. I prefer Ultra Gray RTV.

I know this post is a little old now, but I'm having a problem with my thermostat housing leaking, I've used 3 differen't RTV's the last being Permatex Ultra Grey, but even that after 50 miles started leaking again. What am I doing wrong?

Did you put a new o-ring on the thermostat before installing it ? if not get one. That will fix the leak. As for the permatex, you really don't need it. I just replaced my thermostat couple a weeks ago with just the new oring and its not leaking. Just make sure you tighten the bolts to proper specs. :thumb:

What?!? There is an actual o-ring seal for those? I've always used rtv...

No no, I do have the O-ring gasket for the thermostat. The leak I'm having a problem with is between the head and thermostat housing. It does look like theres supposed to be an O-ring there, but the dealer says there isn't one, and that you should use Permatex Ultra Gray to seal it.
