Resolved 2G No thermostat in thermostat housing?

So after my car overheated upon exiting the highway I diagnosed a thermostat issue. Decided to change it out, and after opening up the housing on my 2g turbo, there was nothing inside!

Just some residual coolant, and an empty hole. Im assuming I am in the correct place based on this thread:

but the thermostat the guy is holding is not in my housing. The only thign in there is a small tip of what looks like an electronic center extending about 2mm in from the side of the spout.

Any ideas on how this could be possible? (Had the car for about 5 years now)

If it's not in there put one in there. You need to have one so get one and install it. I don't know what else to say.

Ok so I just got back from pep boys and the thermostat they gave me doesnt fit. It measures 56mm across (according to the measurment stamped on the thermostat) and the pipe measures approximately 36mm accross. I called pepboys and the guy said my thermostat is located on the "bottom" hose of the radiator not in the top reservoir like what is pictured in the thread on here.

Some one please help before I post pics up of my car in 4,000 pieces across my street!

What did you find out? I know that people who have had over heating problems so they take the thermostat out to allow the coolant to flow round the engine easier.

thats what i did on my old car...i works good but then u run cool all the time...it might be your cooling fans as well make sure they work

Just fyi, the link you posted up top with the pictures isn't a picture of the thermostat housing. It's just a coolant neck leading to your upper radiator hose.

The sensor you see sticking out a little bit down is the coolant temperature sensor. As the gentleman at pepboys stated, the thermostat is at the top of the lower radiator hose. (To the left, on the side of the picture that was posted.)
