Someone thought it would be a good idea when removing a street sign in a parking lot at work to leave 12" of the post behind instead of cutting it off at street level. So when I backed out at night, I cut the wheel and backed over it. The sign post caught my front bumper and about pulled it off before I slammed on the brakes.

Anyway, it mangled the lower bumper plate and tore the bumper cover a bit. It also bent the driver side, top, rear-most bumper cover mounting point (where it bolts to the quarter panel just in front of the wheel well) pulling the quarter panel sheet metal down about 1/4 inch and chipping the paint a bit on the quarter panel. The bumper corner plate was also bent.

Since then my turbo died, so I finally decided to park my Talon for a few weeks and do the maintenance and upgrading I've wanted to do.

1) Does anyone know if there is a difference between the Eclipse and Talon (97-99) lower front bumper plates? If I can't beat mine back into roughly the correct shape, I'd like to know if I can salvage one from either an Eclipse or a Talon from a junkyard. The bumper covers look different, but I don't know if they are mounted identically atleast at the bottom lip.

2) Also, my Haynes manual shows a "front center under cover panel" that mounts over (or under - can't tell from the picture) and in front of this bumper plate, but I don't see it on my car. My dad wrecked my car 5 years ago (not his fault, BTW), and I wonder if the body shop skipped/overlooked replacing this part when they fixed my car. Does anyone know if this part is not on a '97 TSi-AWD? Maybe this is only on the pre-'97 models which have a different bumper cover. In the manual, it looks like it ties the lower lip of the bumper cover to the bumper plate, but my bumper cover bolts right up to the bumper plate. I don't see any unused bolt holes, so maybe it isn't on my model, but it might just share the same bolts as other parts. If it is on the '97-'99 model, should I bother finding one and putting it on? After all, I did go 5 years without noticing it missing (if it is missing).

Thanks!

1) The front bumper plates are the same.

2) It should be there. The shop probably skipped it when they worked on your car. I wouldn't worry about replacing it. If anything it is a wieght saving thing.
