Resolved 2G Fuel Pump only on when Cranking

After getting my car back together, and trying to start it up, my fuel pump only turns on when the car is cranking. When I stop cranking, the fuel pump shuts off. Anybody ever have this happen?

This is normal. The fuel pump will not turn on until you're cranking.

so how does fuel get to the engine if the fuel pump shuts off when your not cranking?

Sorry, I'll say it more clearly. The fuel pump is only on when you are cranking the car or when the car is running. The fuel pump will not be on if the key is in the "on" position and the car is off. In other words, the fuel pump doesn't prime before you start the car.

The fuel pump stays on while the car is running, obviously. But what Eric is trying to say is that the fuel pump will only turn on when you start to crank the car over. Once it starts, it stays on. Once you stop cranking or turn the car off, the fuel pump turns off.

Read all the posts. The fuel pump only runs when the computer sees the engine turning. Key on DOES NOT run the fuel pump on these cars.

You don’t have a problem. It’s not a problem. It’s how these cars come from the factory.

If you have ECMLink there is an option you can select to have the fuel pump prime with the key in the on position for your desired time. If not it will only come on when the motor is being cranked.
